The First Season of Overwatch Competitive Play Ends Soon

//cdn.themis-media.com/media/global/images/library/deriv/1341/1341114.jpgBlizzard has announced the official end dates for the first season of Overwatch competitive play, as well as the rewards you can expect to receive.

The first season of Overwatch Competitive Play is ending soon. Blizzard announced over the weekend that the official end date for Season 1 will be Wednesday, August 17 at 5:00 PM PT. There will be about three weeks of downtime before the second season kicks off. Season 2 is currently set to begin on September 6, but stressed that the date could still change, as the company is working on "system improvements" that could affect the launch.

Of course, with the season ending, it's time to talk about the rewards. Anyone who completed their placement matches will be eligible to receive a special spray and player icon, which will be added to their account as soon as the season ends. Anyone who got into the top 500 on your platform and region will receive an extra player icon and animated spray.

Additionally, players will receive Competitive Points based on their skill rating at the end of the season as follows:

SR 0-39: 10 CPs
SR 40-45: 20 CPs
SR 46-49: 40 CPs
SR 50-52: 60 CPs
SR 53-55: 80 CPs
SR 56-59: 120 CPs
SR 60-64: 200 CPs
SR 65+: 300 CPs

You can read the full official post on the end of the season over at the Overwatch forums [http://us.battle.net/forums/en/overwatch/topic/20748074764].

Is there a reason we've got two articles on this?

OT: Finished my placement matches just so I could get the CPs. Placed at 55.

Why

But I guess if we're discussing rank, the Blizzard post specified it's the highest rank you've achieved during the season. I barely made it to 65 at some point, so that's nice.

Because I totally overlooked the previous one.

When in doubt, you can assume that my advanced age had something to do with it.

Huh. Sounds stupid but it is interesting to see the subtle differences in writing style you guys have.

Hopefully I still have enough time to get my score back up. My high for the season was 42 but lately I just can't seem to win anything.

What crappy rewards. Be in the first 500 and you get a player icon and a gif. OH GEE GOLLY THANKS UNCLE BLIZZARD! Can i come in now? The fire looks lovely.

Well at least it convinced me to finish my placement matches (so I can get in on the rewards for that much).

Is one's ranking based on individual performance or how many wins vs losses? 'Cause some of my 10 placement matches were comically awful (for example, I had a player leave in one while half the remaining players went afk for some reason). It wasn't a very fair rating, if that's the case.

Got a 43, though, which was better than I expected (I'm still one of the worst tiers in the world, according to the blizzard forums). Ah well.
