Fez Gets One Final Patch

Despite being released all the way back in 2013, Fez has gotten one final, sudden, patch.

Remember quirky indie platformer swanky collector's edition [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/tag/view/fez], and now, it has receive a rather substantial "final" update. The patch fixes up a number of key issues that improve performance, improves controller mapping, graphics issues for both low and high-end PCs, and even added in a "speedrun mode."

"Since I shipped Fez 1.11 I had little intention of making additional fixes or features to the game because I simply don't have the time with a kid and a fulltime job... and working on Fez is getting old after 9 years. So I did want to address problems that people have with the game, but I don't want to do it for the rest of my life. I had spent enough time away from the game that I was somewhat enthusiastic about coming back to it, especially if it's at my pace, and that it's my last time doing so," wrote Renaud Bedard, the game's sole programmer.

You can check out the full patch notes right here [http://theinstructionlimit.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Changelog.txt].

For those of you hoping that this increase Fez activity may lead to a sequel, i'll have to remind you that creator Phil Fish had a bit of a breakdown back in 2013, in which he cancelled development of Fez 2 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/126518-Fez-2-Cancellation-Surprised-Polytron-Producer]. Sorry about that.

I'm surprised he finds the time between all the gigs he has now as a DJ.

One? Ive had like 3 or 4 in the last couple of days.

I'm guessing its mostly fixes to things the fixes broke, but still.

I thought Phil Fish was the guy behind Fez? Or is this Renaud guy someone else who worked on it along with him?

I am surprised that a lone budget price indie release has gotten this length of post launch support. Kudos to Renaud Bedard for carrying on this long.

Fez was developed by a small team not just one guy. Fish just did the artwork and game design, Bedard was/is the main programmer (along with Ethan Lee).

Fish was Executive Director of Taking Credit.

I loved Fez, but damn, the guy behind it, is... JUST... not open to criticism and public opinions and he crossed the line again and again. But doesn't matter, I'm going to make a Fez clone just like AMR2 and Uranium started, but I'm giving it a different name.

And now, for the final nail in the coffin.

Yeah, it's a nice looking game, but was it really that good?
