Nintendo Wii Makes The Toy "R" Us Hot List

The Nintendo Wii is now the first video game console to appear on the Toy "R" Us holiday hot list.

Among the Fisher-Price digital cameras, Extreme Tickle Me Elmos and talking cash registers you'll find a game console for the first time on the Toy "R" Us hot list. Used as a guide for parents looking to please their kids, one of the criteria Toys "R" Us looks for is knowing that a given toy will have sufficient stock. With one million Wii units planned [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/newsroom/view/64982] for launch day, Nintendo made the grade for this year's list. "The PlayStation 3 is really geared to a savvy gaming enthusiast," said Kathleen Waugh, a spokeswoman for Toys "R" Us, of the decision to add the Wii to the list. "The Wii system appeals to young kids as well as adults."

With a price of $250 and kid-friendly franchises like Donkey Kong, Mario Brothers and Pokemon, Nintendo appears to be on track with their plans to make the Wii a mainstream console that is acceptable to both kids and parents.
