Castlevania Movie to Begin Shooting in Spring

Paul Anderson plans to begin the Castlevania movie production in spring 2007.

Film director Paul W.S. Anderson, whose past movies include Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil, has teamed with Universal Pictures label Rogue to produce a film adaptation of the popular Castlevania game series. Crystal Sky Entertainment will be co-financing and distributing the $50 million movie. Anderson is searching for filming locations in Hungary and Romania expects to be settled in by Spring 2007.

Set in the 15th century, Rogue co-president Andrew Rona describes the film as "an action/horror project in the vein of Underworld and
Blade." Reaching as far back into the Dracula myth as Vlad the Impaler, Director Anderson claims that, "You could almost call this movie 'Dracula Begins'."

So, is this in addition to the animated Castlevania that Warren Ellis is writing, or replacing it?

I checked up on the Warren Ellis story, and he is working on an animated version of the series for Project 51 Productions, completely seperate of Rogue/Universal Pictures.

Here is a nice link with more details on Warren Ellis:

Somehow I seem to recall that Castlevania's Dracula had nothing at all to do with the ancient Romanian count... While this may not be a good indicator that the movie will be bad, I also seem to recall that there wasn't a homocidal supercomputer in Resident Evil
