Crysis Delayed, No Date Set

Cevat Yerli, CEO of Crytek, has updated the community on the current status of the hotly anticipated PC game.

?There has been a lot of recent talk about Crysis' ship date. I wanted to send out a message to all those who are interested and set the record straight. The game will ship a little later than planned. I want to assure everyone that Crytek are working as hard as we possibly can to deliver this game to our fans and consumers in the earliest timeframe that meets our high quality threshold," said the CEO. "Taking the extra time in the studio is the right decision because it helps us be sure that we can bring you the experience you expect from this new game."

Being published by EA, Crysis is the next series from the developer behind Far Cry, a franchise now owned by Ubisoft. Noticed at E3 for incredible visuals, gamers have wondered if their current system will have any chance running the DirectX 10 game in full detail.

"We are focussing our efforts right now on getting the best possible experience for the widest variety of PC configs, starting from entry-level PC's up to the hard-core game rigs," said Yerli. "Multiplayer is also an area of big focus for us right now, and we listened very hard to our fans. This includes the post-launch modding and community plans. Crysis' core single player is improving all the time - the progress I am seeing from the team right now here in Frankfurt is just staggering."

It will also allow some extra time for those sexy new DX10 video cards to become a little more mainstream.

Hopefully it will also allow some extra time spent on the second half of the game, the original Far Cry really hit a wall when the mutants started to become a factor.

The first DX10 game. Well, I have to say I'm screwed. There is no way I can afford to play Cyrsis on my current rig in anything but DX9 with the eye candy turned off and at a low resolution. This is my big beef with PC gaming. It may provide the ultimate experience in gaming, but only those with enough disposable income to drop thousands of dollars on top of the line components will ever see the true beauty of these games. By the time I can afford the DX10 GPU and Multi core CPU, they will be approaching obsolescence. Meanwhile I will be chugging along at 25fps with AA, AIF, and HDR off. Xbox 360/PS3 here I come.
