Tron To Be Remade For Xbox Live Arcade

Disney Interactive [http://disney.go.com/disneyinteractivestudios/] has announced it will be releasing remakes of the famed arcade stand-ups Tron and Discs of Tron for Xbox Live Arcade.

The games are being developed by Prince Edward Island-based Xbox Live Arcade [http://www.backboneentertainment.com/charlottetown/] remake of Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. Both games will feature updated graphics and sound, as well as multiplayer action.

Released in 1982, the original Tron arcade system actually featured four games: the I/O Tower, the MCP Cone, Battle Tanks, and most famously, Light Cycles. Discs of Tron followed a year later, and featured disc-throwing combat similar to that seen in the movie. Tron titles were also produced for the Atari 2600 system, and beginning in 2003, the franchise was revived with release of Tron 2.0 titles for the PC, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, and most recently, for mobile phones.

The games are scheduled to be released in the summer of 2007, to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the movie. Craig Relyea, Disney Interactive vice-president of marketing, said, "The Tron film has captured the imaginations of video game players and film fans for generations with its ground-breaking visuals and action-filled story. The classic arcade games Tron and Discs of Tron are returning this summer through Xbox Live Arcade with new features and options for the film's 25th anniversary."
