Castlevania Film Writer Writes Blog

Comic book author Warren Ellis and Project 51 Productions animate a trilogy of Castlevania films.

GameSetWatch [http://www.gamesetwatch.com/2007/05/ellis_talks_castlevania_animat.php] revealed that comic book creator Warren Ellis launched the Castlevania: Dracula's Curse [http://castlevaniadraculascurse.com/] blog. Castlevania: Dracula's Curse, which is unaffiliated with the Universal Pictures Castlevania movie being directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, will be an 80 minute, straight-to-DVD animated picture written by Warren Ellis and developed by Project 51 Productions.

Secrets released on the site include Ellis's intentions for a trilogy of films. As part of adapting to the silver screen, several smaller characters like pirate Grant DaNasty in order to make room for mainstays Trevor, Sypha, Alucard and Dracula.

An effort has clearly been made to fit the film's fiction into the sereis' storyline. Ellis commented: "The film is, of course, set in Wallachia in 1476. We've worked with Koji Igarashi to get the film solidly inside the Castlevania timeline, and he's approved everything I came up with, including some new embroidering to the timeline. To make it work as a film, I had to introduce new backstory, and I went through five drafts of the premise and three of the full outline to get the material where IGA wanted it. He remains absolutely passionate about Castlevania. After eight rewrites of pre-production material, I remain absolutely passionate about beating the crap out of IGA in a dark alleyway one day."

I think there are a few words missing there. I assume that means smaller characters like that will need to be cut.

Uh... the latest update from the blog was in 2009. I'm having doubts as to whether this project is alive or dead...

Meh, I didn't look but I'll take your word for it. That sucks because that game had some really interesting things going on too. :(
