360 and PS3 On Par: Ubisoft

The head of game publishing behemoth Ubisoft said the Xbox 360 and PS3 are basically on par with one another from a development perspective.

Yves Guillemot, company CEO and President, said at a BMA Capital Markets conference that the PS3 and 360 are "close in what we can do with them," and each one has some advantages over the other.

He went on to say that porting a game from one platform onto the other required the same amount of effort regardless of which system was the starting point.

"What we do now is create for the PS3 and 360 at the same time, and it doesn't cost more than 10 percent extra to develop for the other machine. ... Before it was costing us more, about 20 percent, just because it was difficult to learn the PS3 hardware, but now our engines are done and we can easily develop for both machines," he said.

Guillemot also predicted the holidays should see the PS3 doing handsomely in light of recent price cuts.

Infinity Ward seem to have the secret of producing games on both 360 and PS3 cracked. By all accounts both versions of Call of Duty 4 are terrific with only minor differences.

If only they could make it so the PC version didn't stutter so often. (granted, it has amazingly short load times)

So I guess this means they're starting to get used to the cell processor? When it was first shown, it seemed like the developer's bane.

Remember: it's a waste of time.
