Oh man... I love Max Payne and I love Marky Mark... but I don't really see him being a good fit for Max. Though he is really good at playing a loose cannon cop.

I don't think Wahlberg is going to be the problem with this movie. I think the problem will be the sort of studio that thinks it's smart to put the director of Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix at the helm.

He sure wouldn't be my first choice to play Max. The role really calls for someone darker and more beat-down and scarred. Like Adrien Brody, maybe.

I have three things to contribute:

1. Max Payne was an excellent game and Max Payne 2 was a brilliantly refined follow-up that exceeded it in almost every way. It remains one of the finest action games I've ever played, and how it was so widely overlooked by fans of the genre is absolutely beyond me. Anyone who hasn't played Max Payne 2, especially now that you can pick it up for about 10-15 bucks with a little looking, is missing out on a remarkably compelling action title.

You know, Adrian Brody would be a much more appropriate choice for the role, but I'm thinking more along the lines of Christian Bale a la Machinist or some weird Tim Roth/Robert Carlyle clone. Hell, I would rather see Roberto Benigni from Johnny Stecchino mess this up than have Marky Mark ruin another film.

Christian Bale... I love the guy, but thinking about it... I don't see how I could think it's Mr. Payne and not Bale playing another dark and tortured character.

I've seen Marky Mark in enough roles that I have seen how many different types of characters he can do. I think he can do a really good job with it, actually. This makes me want to see the movie, though the director...eh....

Nonetheless, the past several movies I've seen Mark Wahlberg in have all been good. Hell, even Four Brothers, which had a huge chance of being just another crap gangster film, was quality. I just hope the director, whose credits are...well, average for video game films, doesn't fuck it up.

Wahlberg dosen't have that special quality to make this movie great, just face it. To make this great, they almost need to find someone new to take on the role. Everyone in the movies now a days don't cut it for this role. They need someone new and inspired to take this up.

You're seriously overestimating the personality, relatability and artistic worth of the character. Wahlberg is a good actor, and that's all that's required for this. Whether or not the director will get it right is another matter entirely.
