Mark Wahlberg Set to Star in Max Payne Movie

Max Payne [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000242/].

John Moore, whose previous credits include Firm Films [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0159273/].

Developed by Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne [http://www.remedygames.com/]. Despite critical acclaim and the success of the first title, the follow-up release failed to generate comparable sales.

Wahlberg, a rapper better known by his Marky Mark moniker, has experienced considerable success in the music industry as head of the Funky Bunch, and has also dabbled in underwear modeling.

If this movie sucks, I can't be held accountable for my actions.

Oh man... I love Max Payne and I love Marky Mark... but I don't really see him being a good fit for Max. Though he is really good at playing a loose cannon cop.

Sounds like he'll be reprising his role in The DepAHHted, but with more awesome and fewer lights. Perfect, really.

I don't think Wahlberg is going to be the problem with this movie. I think the problem will be the sort of studio that thinks it's smart to put the director of Behind Enemy Lines and Flight of the Phoenix at the helm.

He sure wouldn't be my first choice to play Max. The role really calls for someone darker and more beat-down and scarred. Like Adrien Brody, maybe.

Wasn't this movie slated for 2000? And didn't the manual say some other actor? (I was going to say Christian Slater, but I hope I'm dead wrong).

...and another thing. Hasn't Wahlberg established his acting career enough by now that we can stop referring to him as a rapper? Or do we just like saying "Funky Bunch" so much that he'll never be free of it?

If he's going to have to mimic the avatar's face as it was in Max Payne 2, Steven Seagal would have been enough.

I have three things to contribute:

1. Max Payne was an excellent game and Max Payne 2 was a brilliantly refined follow-up that exceeded it in almost every way. It remains one of the finest action games I've ever played, and how it was so widely overlooked by fans of the genre is absolutely beyond me. Anyone who hasn't played Max Payne 2, especially now that you can pick it up for about 10-15 bucks with a little looking, is missing out on a remarkably compelling action title.

2. Yo! It's about that time
To bring forth the rhythm and the rhyme
I'm a get mine so get yours
I wanna see sweat comin' out your pores
On the house tip is how I'm swingin' this
Strictly Hip-Hop boy, I ain't singin' this
Bringing this to the entire nation
Black, white, red, brown
Feel the vibration

Come on come on
Feel it feel it
Feel the vibration

Vibrations good like Sunkist
Many wanna know who done this
Marky Mark and I'm here to move you
Rhymes will groove you
And I'm here to prove to you
That we can party on the positive side
And pump positive vibes
So come along for the ride
Making you feel the rhythm is my occupation
So feel the vibration

Come on come on
Feel it feel it
Feel the vibration

It's such a good vibration
Come on come on come on
It's such a sweet sensation
Feel it feel it

3. oh god Mona don't stop

You know, Adrian Brody would be a much more appropriate choice for the role, but I'm thinking more along the lines of Christian Bale a la Machinist or some weird Tim Roth/Robert Carlyle clone. Hell, I would rather see Roberto Benigni from Johnny Stecchino mess this up than have Marky Mark ruin another film.

Christian Bale... I love the guy, but thinking about it... I don't see how I could think it's Mr. Payne and not Bale playing another dark and tortured character.

I've seen Marky Mark in enough roles that I have seen how many different types of characters he can do. I think he can do a really good job with it, actually. This makes me want to see the movie, though the director...eh....

Nonetheless, the past several movies I've seen Mark Wahlberg in have all been good. Hell, even Four Brothers, which had a huge chance of being just another crap gangster film, was quality. I just hope the director, whose credits are...well, average for video game films, doesn't fuck it up.

Honestly if they are seriously going to use Wahlberg why even bother? I can't see him adding the special touch to this movie to make it better than the rest of the video game movies in the world, let alone even beable to compair it to the games it is based after. Wahlberg dosen't have that special quality to make this movie great, just face it. To make this great, they almost need to find someone new to take on the role. Everyone in the movies now a days don't cut it for this role. They need someone new and inspired to take this up.

You're seriously overestimating the personality, relatability and artistic worth of the character. Wahlberg is a good actor, and that's all that's required for this. Whether or not the director will get it right is another matter entirely.

Funky bunch.
What's that there? Not a low-content post?

For shame, Mister Pitts. For Shame. My formerly rose-tinted view of this community has been shattered.
Bear in mind that this post is five years old, and this movie was already filmed. [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0467197/]
