EA Announces FaceBreaker

In keeping with its well-established reputation for innovation, Electronic Arts [http://www.ea.com]has announced FaceBreaker, a new boxing franchise currently under development at EA Canada.

Created by the team behind Fight Night Round 3 [http://www.easports.com/fightnightround3/], FaceBreaker will offer irreverent, in-your-face fun with stylized graphics and immersive gameplay. Each boxer in the game will be distinctly styled, such as the pelvic-thrusting Romeo and a dirty-fighting Russian demolitions expert named Molotov. The built-in Photo Game Face will allow players to upload their own photos to the game and make things personal.

"We're very excited to announce FaceBreaker, an all-new franchise from EA Sports that is fun, fresh and innovative," said EA Sports President Peter Moore. "FaceBreaker reinvigorates one of the great genres in sports videogames. Arcade boxing takes me back to my roots in this industry, and this game signals our shift to adding more approachable fun to our product lineup. In no time at all, you'll be picking up the controllers and knocking your opponents around the ring, smashing faces, and having a riot."

FaceBreaker is expected to ship later this year for the FaceBreaker website [http://www.wii.com].

I don't really see where this "well-established reputation for innovation" is coming from. Mind to elaborate?

So let me get this one straight. EA have a "new" boxing franchise from the team who developed the Fight Night series (also for EA) and because it has added silliness it's somehow innovative? The Tiger Woods series did the same thing at one point, adding Happy Gilmore style awesomeness and novelty characters but it didn't change the fact it's still very much the same game. Innovative? Immersive? I think you guys need to find some new buzzwords.

n1, the quote pill is referring(spelling?) to is from the first paragraph, in which he replies that EA is not much innovative at sport games.

But give me a game that can truly 'innovate' sport games, outside from the multiplayer BS like items. That'd be one tough feat, i reckon.

He's saying that EA has a well-established reputation for innovation - that's a general statement having nothing to do with the game at hand. That's a funny statement because actually, EA has a reputation for being counteractive when it comes to innovation.

Is it just me or is EA just going to over use this cartoon-y art style.

I mean first BF:Heroes now this. What's next, a cartoon Need For Speed?
