Activision Announces Guitar Hero: On Tour For Nintendo DS

Handheld gamers will soon have the opportunity to look as silly as everyone else as Nintendo DS [http://www.activision.com].

The latest addition to the Guitar Hero [http://www.guitarhero.com/]series has been designed specifically for the DS, and will include a new "Guitar Grip" peripheral that fits snugly into the DS as well a Guitar Hero "pick-stylus" for hardcore shredding on the go. Activision claims the game will ship with the most diverse set of tracks ever included with a Guitar Hero release, including classic rock, alternative and pop favorites like Nirvana, OK GO and No Doubt.

"We're designing Guitar Hero: On Tour from the ground up to take full advantage of the DS platform by integrating signature gameplay with fresh new content and DS specific features," said Karthik Bala, CEO of Vicarious Visions [http://www.vvisions.com/], the studio developing the game. "We've taken all of our learnings on the DS platform to date and pushed it to the limits to create a truly innovative Guitar Hero experience."

Guitar Hero: On Tour will feature co-op play over a wireless network, and will also let players engage in a head-to-head Guitar Duel featuring new Battle Items designed specifically for the DS edition of the game: Players must blow into the microphone to extinguish out-of-control pyros, for instance, or use the touch screen to autograph a fan's t-shirt in the middle of a set. The game will also include six customizable characters, including two exclusive to Guitar Hero: On Tour, and five new unlockable venues.

"We are continuing to introduce new and exciting ways to bring music to audiences with Guitar Hero," said Activision/Red Octane Head of Publishing Dusty Welch. "The Guitar Hero Guitar Grip redefines how games can be played on handheld systems and the integration of the microphone and touch screen gameplay on the DS, further illustrates Guitar Hero's leadership in delivering the most unique and creative quality hardware and software on the market."

Guitar Hero: On Tour is rated E10+ (Everyone) and is currently slated for a release in summer 2008. Updates and other information will be available at the new Guitar Hero: On Tour website [http://www.guitarheroontour.com/].

Ok this is becoming too much. Sure Guitar Hero was fun but come on. Do we really need Guitar hero Aerosmith? Guitar Hero On Tour? They came up with a great idea but now its just getting sad.

Guitar Hero Aerosmith, yes.

Guitar Hero DS...I dunno. If you're not playing with the guitar controller and a big screen, I don't quite see the point, but of course, I could be wrong.

I suppose the natural extension of Guitar Hero to a portable edition would be Guitar Hero: Busker, but I can't quite figure how the gameplay should work on a title like that.

It looks more like an accordion than a guitar to be honest. In any case, I don't think it will de-throne Elite Beat Agents as king of DS music games.
