38 Studios Expands

Curt Schilling's 38 Studios [http://www.38studios.com/]has added another high-profile member of the industry to its team in Travis McGeathy, who has joined the company as systems design lead.

McGeathy, previously with Everquest [http://www.station.sony.com/]MMOG franchise prior to joining 38 Studios.

"38 Studios already boasts some heavy-hitting, pop culture names with Todd McFarlane [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/R.a._salvatore]," said 38 Studios President Brett Close. "In addition to these visionaries, 38 Studios is extremely proud of the well-known and highly respected designers, artists and engineers we've attracted. Having Travis, Jason and Steve as the nucleus of our design team adds further credibility within the industry, strengthening our commitment to deploying a first-rate MMOG and ensuring fans that we have the skill and experience to deliver an online entertainment experience like no other."

Founded in 2006 by Major League Baseball pitcher Curt Schilling, 38 Studios is focused on MMORPG development, a genre Schilling is particularly interested in. The company is currently at work on a new MMOG codenamed Copernicus, with McFarlane as art director and Salvatore as creative director. McGeathy, who served as lead designer on Everquest while at SOE, will oversee the team behind the gameplay mechanics that will power the game. Copernicus is currently expected to be released in 2010.
