Sony Cancels Eight Days, The Getaway

"It has been agreed that production of both Eight Days and The Getaway will cease immediately due to the redistribution of the budget," the company said in a statement. "This decision was made following an internal review of all games and it was deemed that with the incredibly strong list of exclusive first party titles coming up both this year and in the near future, resources should be reallocated to enhance those projects closer to completion."

The Getaway [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eight_Days] franchise, was initially revealed at E3 2005, but like Eight Days, information regarding further progress was very slight. Sony was reported to be considering a movie adaptation of the property earlier this year.

Sony confirmed with LittleBigPlanet [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=190261], SingStar, Buzz, EyeToy and Eye of Judgment, and will continue to push the boundaries on all PlayStation platforms."

Wow, I was feeling upset for buying a 360 for how much I loved the getaway, now I can rest easy knowing that I picked MY favourite console.

well, since 8 Days was going to be the only reason for me to get a ps3, looks like now I won't be getting one.

What the Hell? Eight Days helped build up hype for the PS3. Next thing you know they'll be canceling Heavy Rain. After the crap Haze turned out to be MGS4 better not suck (90 min cut scene? I BETTER be wrong!) then there'll be no reason to get a PS3.

That pretty much blows, despite how poorly made The Getaway games were in a lot of areas, I loved them both, more for their story and was hoping the third game could make good use of the PS3 and deliver excellent gameplay as well as the story.

Damnit! I'm getting a PS3 next week and Haze turned out to be shite and now two well anticipated games are gone!

Eight Days was one of the few games that looked incredible when they first debuted the PS3's lineup. Sad that it's getting canned.

Another pair of nails in the coffin; along with RA3 that's three nails. The only things keeping us from burying the damn thing already is MGS4 and FFXIII.
