New Star Wars Character Joins Soulcalibur 4

The crossover madness continues as another Star Wars character has been announced for Namco's upcoming brawlfest, Soulcalibur IV [http://www.soulcalibur.com/].

Darth Vader's secret apprentice will be the third PlayStation 3 [http://www.starwars.com]owners, the secret apprentice known as Starkiller (although I prefer the much catchier Darth Crashdown) will be playable on both platforms.

While the new character lacks the old-school Star Wars street cred of Vader and Yoda, he is expected to earn a high profile among fans following the mid-September release of Battlestar Galactica [http://www.lucasarts.com/games/theforceunleashed/]. His voice and likeness will also be used in Soulcalibur IV.

Soulcalibur IV is set for release on July 29 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. For more information, which probably won't include an explanation as to exactly why Darth Vader and Yoda are in this game in the first place, hop over to Soulcalibur.com [http://www.soulcalibur.com/].

The Star Wars game formbook says he'll get a high profile alright.
As the undesirable star of one of the worst games of its year (Remember bounty Hunter? Remember how cool the idea of donning THAT helmet and fighting your away across the gallery was? Remember how much it sucked?)

Goddamit...if this was the new MKvsDC,I wouldn't mind but ffs this is a franchise that takes it all seriously and so far has found an excuse to plot every single character into the storyline.Even Spawn and Necrid.

I guess the yoda and vader inclusion makes more sense now... it's all a big in-game commercial for The Force Unleashed.

Coming soon: a playable Pepsi Can in Soul Calibur 5!

I don't know why this irritates me so fucking much, but it REALLY does.

Perhaps because of grass marketing operation and how the universe of Soul Caliber seems to be even more meaningless than ever?

Sigh. Next thing you know they'll Put in Kyle Katarn and Jar Jar.
If they put in Jar Jar I have to wipe them out... all of them. (See what I did thar!)

But I agree with JakubK666. MK Vs Dk looks fun cause it's taking the piss out of itself whereas this looks too serious.

Quoted from Soul Calibur Wiki:

"Hyrule's tranquility was shattered by the arrival of several disasters, which brought opaque, ominous clouds with them. Eventually, it was discovered that a wizard was to blame for all that had happened. Just as the people were about to lose all hope, the sun miraculously returned as Link, having been summoned by Princess Zelda to find the disasters' source, successfully defeated the wizard. The people of Hyrule rejoiced in the belief that eternal peace would rule; but it eventually became clear that the wizard who was responsible for the disasters was in fact controlled by an evil sword from another world, Soul Edge, and that the fragments of Soul Edge had been gathering in the other world. Knowing that the resurrection of the evil blade must be prevented at all costs,Link chose to travel to the other world and destroy Soul Edge himself. He gathered his trusted Master Sword and Ocarina of Time, and transported himself off on a secret journey."

...but,after all, they did manage to plot him into the storyline.Same with Heihachi Mishima...and Spawn.

Now try pulling the same thing off with Star Wars characters.Say hello to the time-traveling warps like it happened to all other "guests" but what about other issues? Lightsabers that OHKO just about anything they come across and Vader's suit that cannot be destroyed by ANY weapon from 16th century.

They FAILED, big time. And even Yoda's and Vader's pure awesomeness won't be able to balance this out.

So apparently no one has heard the rumors about MK vs DC having NO Fatalities, and little to no blood?

http://kotaku.com/381505/midway-gamers-day-mortal-kombat-vs-dc-universe-first-characters-announced
http://www.xbox360fanboy.com/2008/05/08/mk-vs-dc-includes-modified-fatalities/

Granted the the first says none, and the second says "modified" and less outrageous...these are just some sources i googled on the subject after hearing about it from a friend I know who works at EB/Gamestop

Is the world of Soul Calibur so sacred that it can't take the intrusion of characters from other worlds? Is it so serious that you don't want to button-mash Yoda to the top of the ladder, at the risk of it seeming too unrealistic? C'mon, people, it's not like this is Virtua Fighter!

Director Ed Boon said during [url?http://www.gametrailers.com/player/33096.html]an interview[/url] that the MK vs DC is pretty much going to be a TEEN-rated game. That pretty much obviously means that they have to reduce the ammount of blood and the fatalities needs to be cut back on.

The fatalities are not going to be removed entirely is what he says during the interview, but more that they're going to be "kind of a big punctuation at the end" which means in English that the fatalies are going to be set under the pussification ray set on to max radiation.

If you thought that the fatalies of MK1 on SNES where disgraceful [http://archive.gamespy.com/articles/june03/dumbestmoments/readers/index4.shtml], the biggest joke is yet to come.

I'd quote the last three posts and state my agreement with them all but that would be a waste of thread space. But yes, Soul Calibur IV won't be "ruined" by guest characters, and MK vs DC hardly deserves to have "kombat" spelt with a K
