Valve Hacker Arrested

A hacker who gained notoriety by breaking into Steam in 2007 has been apprehended by Dutch police in the town of Maastricht [http://www.maastricht.nl/maastricht/show/id=163572&].

Known as MaddoxX, the hacker was able to bypass Cyber Cafe [http://www.valvesoftware.com/] file server and access information including credit card numbers, transaction statements, Valve's bank balance and other information. He posted the information in a message on the No-Steam forum, saying, "We also don't want money from VALVe. We want a simple message on their site."

According to the Dutch Ministry of the Interior, however, MaddoxX did not always demonstrate such magnanimity, claiming he had run through "13 million Euros playing poker online and shopping for notebooks, flat screens and MP3 players" before we was caught. A Enemy Territory: Quake Wars [http://www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/53369].

The arrest was reportedly carried out by Team High Tech Crime, although a Google translated Dutch website referring to the unit called it the High Tech Crime Team, which sounds somewhat less silly but also not nearly as funny under the circumstances.

Team High Tech Crime...I wish police/security groups had such kewl names
Sounds like it should be preceeded by "From the people who brought you..." Oh crap, anyone in here remember that awful Japanese game where you fight as an anthropomorphic killer bunnyrabbit in a school uniform?

If I was rich I'd hire him....I'd be surprised if he wasn't offered some sort of "work for us get out of jail early" thing....

Yes it does, Interpol sounds like something you need a "special injection" to get rid of! "What's wrong with her?" *whispers* "Oh she's got Interpol...I heard she came back from some non-gamer event and it was all over her...well, you know..."

Do they travel around with a talking cat and sing a cheesy song before attempting to catch anyone?
Obviously not; these guys managed to actually catch him.

Team High Tech Crime > Team Sucket.
