Beatles: Rock Band Details Emerge

New details have emerged about the upcoming Beatles: Rock Band game that was announced in January [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/84614-Beatles-Based-Game-In-The-Works].

Though we now have a bit more information about the Rock Band game that isn't actually a Rock Band game, little of the gameplay is going to come as a surprise. According to the press release: "The Beatles: Rock Band will allow fans to pick up the guitar, bass, mic or drums and experience The Beatles extraordinary catalogue of music through gameplay that takes players on a journey through the legacy and evolution of the band's legendary career. In addition, The Beatles: Rock Band will offer a limited number of new hardware offerings modeled after instruments used by John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr throughout their career." Perhaps that even includes Thomas the Tank Engine? [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YoI56DzAcRg]

The pricing is also through, with a not-so-small $59.99 for the standalone game, with $99.99 for the guitars. If you want the whole set though, be prepared for a mortgage-shaking $249.99. Luckily, it will allow the use of other music peripherals like Guitar Hero and you won't be needing the bowl haircuts.

The Beatles: Rock Band, being developed by Apple Corps, Harmonix and MTV Games for the PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, is scheduled for release on 9/9/09. See what they did there?

I love how Harmonix makes band-specific games for bands that are actually WORTH buying a separate game for (AC/DC, the Beatles). I still retch at the thought of Aerosmith and Metallica getting their own games.

I'm going to go against the trend and say, eugh, how very dull.

I'm sticking with guitar hero, and looking forward to the Metallica release.

In my mind the best thing ever to come out of them was Ringo on Thomas the tank engine.

But...I already have a bowl haircut I want to use. Is the game compatible?

I wonder which Beatles instruments they're using, whether it's a Rickenbacker 4001 or Hofner bass, whether it's a Rickenbacker 360/12, Gibson SG, Epiphone Casino, or something else for guitar. Since Gibson's legal department acted fruity at the end of their agreement with Red Octane and they own Epiphone, they might have just decided to go all early Beatles and license everything from Rickenbacker. That would be pretty sweet. This does raise a question though: will any of these songs allow rhythm, bass and lead at the same time as singing? I'd really like that.

To conclude: DO WANT.
