Ultimate Ninja Storm Dev Calls Sixaxis "Useless"

Sixaxis [http://www.ultimateninjastorm.com/] controller "useless."

"We're not supporting Trophies," Matsuyama told Gamer.tm [http://gamer.tm/news.php?id=2905] through a translator. "And before you ask, we're not supporting Sixaxis. It's useless." To emphasize the point, he then waved a Sixaxis controller around "in a jocular manner."

I suppose it's fair to ask whether Matsuyama meant the Sixaxis controller is useless for Ultimate Ninja Storm, or useless in general. He didn't say, but Ultimate Ninja Storm will apparently feature a lot of platform and beat-em-up gameplay, genres which aren't terribly well-suited to motion-sensing controls. I'm also unsure as to why anyone would care, since Sony announced [http://multiplayerblog.mtv.com/2008/04/02/sony-non-shocker-sixaxis-discontinued/] earlier in the year that sales of the Sixaxis are expected to cease by the end of 2008.

On the other hand, who am I to question a Real Ultimate Power Ninja Storm? Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm is scheduled for release in fall 2008, exclusively for the PlayStation 3 [http://www.playstation.com].

At first, sixaxis just seemed like a half-a$$ed attempt at a ripoff of nintendo's Wiimote controles with a funny palindrome name, and that's kind of what it was for every game that supported it (Except for Folklore). They're finally realising it, I guess, and it's about time. Of course, now we hear about Microsoft trying to add motion-sensitivity to the 360, which kind of makes me laugh. What's next Microsoft? 360 Miis? *cough*

You say that they are going to stop selling Sixaxis controllers, but won't the function live on in Dualshock 3?

ahahaha, a Naruto game developer calls something useless, maybe he was looking in a mirror at the time.
Although.
Six axis is pretty useless, the only game I've played that made noteworthy use of it was MGS4 (shakes that doll, go on, SHAKE IT). It's certainly not a valid replacement for the analogue buttons (but then again only racing and MGS games made much use of that, also Dropship, but let's not mention Dropship)

Ya know, using the Dualshock 3, I see why Sony made the sixaxis controller so light, I tried controlling a warhawk with sixaxis and it's awesome, but the problem is that since the controller is a little heavy and your rocking your wrists in a "jocular" motion, it's too much work.

Anyone who claims the Sixaxis is useless didn't play Blazing Angels or Warhawk. It's awesome for flight controls, IMO.

And, hey, here's an idea: after you hit a button to grab an opponent, give the controller a shake to slam them to the ground, unless they are shaking hard enough to break the hold. There, not so useless now, is it, genius?

That's just the non-rumble model, not motion sensing altogether. What that announcement states is that the non-rumble Sixaxis is discontinued; DualShock3 will still have motion sensing, which points to why someone would care.

They should re-make Heart of Darkness (PS1) and use your idea,, sell it on PSN.

Just what was the point of the six-axis anyway?

Various degrees of motion-sensitive controllers have been around for.. Um, decades.

They sucked, 90% of the time.

People complain about the Wii, but let's face it, it's a miracle compared to what pre-dated it.

And here's something that probably goes unnoticed - The true 'controller innovation' with the wii wasn't even the motion controls...

It's that the controllers are essentially one-handed.

Anyway, sixaxis? Sounds good on paper, but obviously, quite worthless in practice.

You know what's even worse than Sixaxis? THREAD NECROMANCY!

Yeesh. Next time read the dates. Is it that hard?

Sheesh. Keep your pants on. Mistakes happen.
I did check the dates, but obviously not carefully enough.

(I'm making it worse now, obviously, but meh.).

Look at the post immediately above mine.
It says August 27th. that's 9 days.
Obviously though, what you're referring to is that it says August 27th, 2008

The escapist makes this all too easy though. Unlike most places, where digging into old content would explicitly require going back a huge amount, the Escapist is constantly re-cycling old articles onto the main page.

Is it really such a surprise there's the occasional unintentional necromance, given a setup like this?
