Brett Ratner Wants To Do A Guitar Hero Movie

Activision [http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0711840/] would want him to screw up the franchise.

Ratner, the artistic driving force behind movies including the MTV News [http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120812/]. "I love Guitar Hero and I think it's a part of pop culture," he said. "I would love to do a Guitar Hero movie, if Activision would ever let me. I'm trying to convince them, but why would you have a movie screw up such a huge franchise? Not that I would make a bad movie. So that would be cool, to do a Guitar Hero movie."

"It could be about a kid from a small town who dreams of being a rock star and he wins the Guitar Hero competition," he added. "One of those dreams-[come-true] kind of concepts."

Ratner's claimed his relationship with Activision through his Brett Ratner Brands consultancy has given him a considerable amount of influence over the Guitar Hero games. "I have a deal with Activision for their branding," he said. "For instance, naming Guitar Hero: World Tour, coming up with the new Guitar Hero game name. It's sort of like Rock Band [http://www.rockband.com]. So they said, 'Come up with a name.' And I did, and it became Guitar Hero: World Tour."

I think Activision's reluctance to hand Ratner the keys to a Guitar Hero movie speaks well of the company, despite his protestations that he wouldn't make a bad movie out of it. Some movies are inherently well-suited for translation to the big screen, and some just aren't. Besides, not doing a Guitar Hero movie will give Ratner more time to collect acclaim for directing music videos [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hr0Wv5DJhuk] in which people sing directly into a camera.

The third one did.
And it was a real tour de force. Probably the finest storyline in a videogame since Geometry Wars.

Call me a cynic but if this happens, it'll e the most shameless cash-in since Mac and Me.

Oh, come on guys, it could be good. They could make it about a kid trying to cope with a crappy dad and a mentally handicapped brother, but then he finds out that his brother is AWESOME at Guitar Hero, and through a series of hilarious events and a climatic battle with a spoiled rich kid (His secret weapon? One of those thousand dollar Rock Band 2 drum kits), they could learn the meaning of true friendship and family!

Oh, wait. They already did that years ago. It sucked back then, too.

This is a god awful idea.

I don't think they should have been able to make a Guitar Hero game in the first place, let alone a film.

I mean come on, it's a guitar........play it. There's NO need to further encourage people not to play actual instruments and replace skill/talent with button mashing.

*sigh*

This is worse news than the 9th Elm St. film

I was going to comment on the article, but I clicked on one of the links and got shown some video by a girl called Miley Cyrus. Anyone want to clue me in on who she is and why her video has 20 million views?
She's Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter. Apparently she does a TV show for children but I find the fact she's Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter far more interesting.

I think I've got the perfect actor for this crappy acclaimed role... Ratner, say hello to Blake Peebles [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/85741-Teen-Dropout-to-be-Pro-Guitar-Hero]!

A hack director who ruins franchises wants to make a movie about a Rhythm game with basically no plot? Yeah I can totally see that working *sarcasm*

I'd rather see things move in the other direction, a narrative game which uses the guitar mechanic, the way Patapon uses a drum motif.

The film will be about players, a drama, with humour and teenage angst.

It can actually sell. I'm not even sure I have something fundamentally against this, because unless I'm wrong, it won't pretend the game itself had an exploitable plot. It would look at gamers. But we can expect the treatment to be completely outdated or extremely cheesy, and the film being a suckage of spectacular proportions.

But again, I could be wrong. If so, it's an absurd idea.

If they turned the South Park episode Guitar Zero into a feature length comedy it might work, but South Park already did it as a 20 minute episode (which of course was brilliant).

Ladies and gentlemen: consider your minds fully blown.
