Jack Thompson Likes Sarah Palin

Soon-to-be-former attorney Jack Thompson has written a letter to Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin [http://www.johnmccain.com/palin.htm], offering his services to her campaign by way of his latest and greatest Constitutional amendment against videogames.

Thompson has decided to spend his remaining few days as a game-hating attorney throwing his support behind the McCain-Palin campaign, which he says is "missing the boat" on the issue of children being turned into homicidal zombie maniacs by the videogame industry. Thompson claims, according to "a number of reliable polls," that fully 70 percent of Americans want a federal law prohibiting the sales of "adult" videogames to minors; fortunately, Thompson is ready to ride to the rescue and provide just such legislation.

"I have this crucial, constitutional legislation drafted and ready to go," he wrote in his letter. "You will see voters flock to your proposal. The American entertainment industry's assault upon our children and our values must stop, and you are the person to stop it."

Of course, numerous state-level attempts to impose such laws, some authored or inspired by Thompson, have been declared unconstitutional in each and every case, but that hasn't stopped Thompson's grandstanding against the game industry, nor has his pending disbarment [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/86463] for "irrational and self-aggrandizing antics," "cumulative misconduct" and numerous other ethical and legal violations. Thompson's permanent disbarment takes effect on October 25.

Re: Federal Law Needed to Stop Sale of Mature-Rated Video Games to Minors

Dear Governor Palin:

Over the last decade I have appeared on more than 200 national television programs (Today eight times, 60 Minutes twice, Nightline, Oprah) alerting Americans to the public safety and health hazards posed by the video game industry's marketing and sale of violent and pornographic Mature-rated video games to minors. Innumerable school shootings have been caused by these murder simulators, including those at Paducah, Columbine, Red Lake, and Virginia Tech. We are teaching our kids how to murder.

A number of reliable polls prove that 70% of the American people want a federal law prohibiting the sale of adult video games to minors. We are the only nation in the world that does not have such a law. The United States Federal Trade Commission has proven that major retailers like Best Buy, Target, and Wal-Mart are violating the video game industry's age rating system. These brazen sales by these huge retailers are occurring in stores and via the Internet. I have sat in jail cells with these game-trained killers. I have sat in the living rooms of the families of their victims. Both sides in this carnage are bathed in tears. The video game industry is sowing the wind, and the rest of us are reaping their whirlwind. It is going to get worse. Columbine times ten is on the way

The McCain-Palin campaign, with all respect, is missing the boat on this issue. I strongly urge your campaign to tell American parents that if elected you will present to Congress a bill that prevents the sale of adult games to kids while fully protecting the First Amendment. I have this crucial, constitutional legislation drafted and ready to go. You will see voters flock to your proposal. The American entertainment industry's assault upon our children and our values must stop, and you are the person to stop it.

Regards, Jack Thompson

Representatives from the McCain-Palin campaign have not yet responded to the letter.

Not surprised.

Also, Sara Palin believes in creationism, that alone tells us how qualified she is to be governor.

children being turned into homicidal zombie maniacs by the videogame industry.
Child plays video games->???-> Child turns into a zombie.

I feel we're missing a fairly crucial step in that logic.

Like where the T-Virus was introduced?

-interpretation of Jack's letter-

Mrs. Gvner maybe VP type person,

I'm a well known conservative cruisader. Look, I'm even a Maverick in taking on the entertainment industry! I'm about to loose my ability to practice law, but I can still write them! Look, even vital ones! Please talk to Mr. McCain about getting me a new job in Washington so I can be an even larger pain in the ass!

-end interpretation, and the world shakes in fear. . . because the campaign may just take him up on that offer. . . -

Not surprised. He's an attention seeker, after all. Something as minor as a permanent disbarment won't stop him.

It's like the world knew I'd need one more reason to wish I could hate them both to the ends of the earth

I'm loving the very witty responses.

His voice is but a drop of fly spit in the torrential downpour of our economy.

"you will see voters flock to your prposal"
Missing there is the critical second half of the sentence that says "to shoot it down so fast and hard it won't be able to sit down ever again"

I'm contemplating if Jack Thomson is actually worthy of my hate or not... Should I just ignore him? I know he's been ridiculous, and has been for years... Blaming everything on CSS or some variation of a shooter game, giving news reports on incidents and blaming videogames before any established facts are out in the open... But does he actually deserve my hatred?

....

Of course he does. He hates my favorite hobby. And wants to abolish it from the face of the earth despite the fact that he is a former gamer himself... Without being too radical, it's like that 'hitler was a jew' myth... Ridiculous.

Yet another reason not to elect John Mccain. All his crazy hanger-ons that we really don't want in the White House.

This isn't going to help that woman in the least.
That's pretty much what I was thinking. I mean... the majority, as ignorant as they may be at times, don't honestly take Thompson seriously, right? So having him aligned with the McCain / Palin campaign is surely a nail in the coffin rather than a beacon in the dark.

Of course I could just be really naive.

because the campaign may just take him up on that offer
They'd be fools to do so, such a thing would cost them more votes than its worth, nevermind that a Constitutional amendment is not nearly as simple as
"Hey, I want this done"
"Kay. Done."
It requires a hell of a lot of effort and support, which is why there are so few of them. I can almost guarantee that even if McCain-Palin did take Thompson up on his offer, it'd still not get through.

Is Mccain trying to lose the election?
Doubtful. This is just some crazy guy trying to hit them up, no way they're dumb enough to touch him with a 10 foot pole.

It's kind of like getting the endorsement of the KKK...no one wants it, but you can't force them to not endorse you, so your screwed

//On that note I wonder if the KKK are going to come out in support for McCain since his competitor is an african american man. Oh lordy, that would be so aweful and so hilarious at the same time.

I have a theory that a few years ago Jack decided he would be a sorta reverse-shill for hire. Companies hire him when they want their game to get some publicity and in this case my theory is the Obama campaign has hired him to do this. :D

Put this in the conspiracy theory thread, it's great.

I remember reading on one site (may have been a hoax) that one of the KKK Dragons (one of the higher ranks I believe) endorsed Obama over Clinton because, and I roughly quote, "Anything's better than that *****."
