F.E.A.R. 2 DLC Coming in April

Monolith's hit horror-themed FPS F.E.A.R. 2 [http://www.whatisfear.com/] will get a fresh coat of paint in April courtesy of downloadable content that will include a new multiplayer map pack.

WBIE [http://www.wbie.com] says the DLC will give gamers "a new dimension of paranormal horror, cinematic combat and highly kinetic action" when it comes out next month. Included with the new content will be the Toy Soldiers map pack, a collection of three multiplayer maps offering a "new perspective" on the game, along with a premium theme and picture pack.

The "new perspective" of the Toy Soldiers map pack is quite literal: Players will be reduced to only a few inches in height as they battle across three unique environments. In Full Tilt, combat will take place in a multi-level pinball machine taken straight from the 1970s, including flippers, targets, spinners and pop-bumpers. Cockroach will let players work some bad mojo on each other in a "blood-drenched" and tightly-connected hospital room, complete with electrical cords, pill bottles and lab equipment. Recess, the third map in the pack, will feature a giant sandcastle, a toy bulldozer and a population of plastic toy soldiers.

There was some confusion about the release of the map pack, which some sites had reported was already available as a free download on Major Nelson [http://www.xbox.com/en-US/live/] now says, "The F.E.A.R. 2 content was pulled for the moment, it will be back but I don't have an ETA." The nature of the problem is unclear but since Warner's announcement of the DLC made no mention of the map pack coming out today, it could be something as simple as simple as a mix-up over release dates.

In any event, F.E.A.R. fans should circle April on their calendars - the whole month at this point, specific release dates haven't been revealed, nor have platforms - and get ready to fear Alma again, again!

As long as it's free.

DLC appearing this soon after release always looks as though it was cut from the game specifically to be the DLC, so charging people would be just a little cynical.

Are they going to add a proper hard setting to the game this time? Vanilla hard is ridiculously easy.

What about the PC version, that was so sub par, we need something to make up for the short comings.

While this actually sounds fairly interesting, I won't be downloading anything for what I consider the most disappointing sequel ever.

I know! I had to switch it up to hard just so I wouldn't be able to simply breeze through the game. And even that was barely on the tricky side of normal.

I want to get it, but I don't play F.E.A.R 2 enough to justify it. Seriously, that's amazing.

Well, assuming I have to buy it anyway.
