A Vampire, a Werewolf and a Ghost Walk Into a TV Show...

Coming soon to a TV near you (if your TV is in the UK, anyway): the Soap Opera of the Dead.

Today, the BBC released details about "Being Human [http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/beinghuman/]," "a witty, sexy and thrilling six-part drama" that follows the lives of three not-quite-human pals.

Given the recent furor through the gaming/non-gaming community over the undead (despite "that film" [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twilight_(2008_film)]) it seems as if a reasonable treatment will be given to this program, more "Kindred : The Embraced" [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kindred:_the_Embraced] than The Munsters. [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Munsters]

The plot follows three characters:
George, a Jewish werewolf:
Yeah, I gave up on the whole orthodoxy thing when I started turning into a wolf.
Mitchell, a vampire:
Trust me George, there are worse things than death.
- who work as hospital porters, and their flat mate, Annie, a ghost:
Uh, you don't have to keep going on about it, me being a ghost, it's a bit rude. If someone's fat and you're like 'you're fat'.
as they struggle to survive past threats from their own kind, humanity, and paying the bloody bills in time.

The pilot garnered 450,000 viewers (on a digital channel) and was subject to rave reviews, some of them from me.

Rumors have been circulating of upcoming changes to the show, as the pilot's 450,000 viewers were apparently not BBC 3's desired demographic. The original pilot, which gained all the attention, will be re-written. Yeah, because that plan always works like a charm [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefly_(TV_series)].

Nevertheless, the series is scheduled to air on BBC 3 or Iplayer this quarter. If it's half as good as the pilot, it will still be a cracking series, and if people start realizing there's a market for horror drama, then perhaps the next House of the Dead movie will end up in a better director's hands.

This goes along rather well with the article I read about a new TV show by Fox about werewolves that has been labeled as "probably offensive."

Today Fox announced that they're developing a show called Bitches, about four female New York City friends who turn into werewolves during a full moon.

I personally find it kinda funny and doubt that it will run with that title.

Ah, so it's not enough for them to make do with the mere 450,000 people that tuned into the pilot is it? Maybe I'm just being cynical but do I get the feeling they are going for the "Twilight" audience. One day, these moody teenage girls are going to bump into a real vampire and find themselves quite surprised when the vampire doesn't express his undying devotion to her after saving her from a potentially fatal road accident and instead just takes a good bite and literally bleeds her dry.

Now, surely that would get an audience..?

Nice, I wondered when this would get here. I saw the pilot ages ago, and have been begging for more ever since. Lets hope these changes don't fuck it up.

Hah! I love the Jewish werewolf part. If I get buggered to watch this I may enjoy it. I would absolutely love some yiddish slang thrown in there from the wereguy.

Just what we need, more utter crap on TV, bring back invader Zim and firefly I say!!!!
Thing is, it's not crap... it was actually pretty good. I agree that Invader Zim and Firefly should be brought back, but not at the expense of this one... cut some of the other shit we already have on TV instead.

Wait... Invader Zim wasn't crap? I mean, it was funny, but it served little purpose and was pretty shitty.
It's purpose is entertainment. It served that purpose well. One of my favourite sequences, and possibly the greatest in the history of animation, was the showdown between Zim and Dib in "The Wettening".

Also, it's nice to see how much they actually got past the Nickelodeon execs. How the "Dark Harvest" episode wasn't pulled is beyond me.

Just one question, T_r_o_a_e: do you get all of your information off Wikipedia? If, by some inexplicable circumstances, Wikipedia was closed, would you become a lifeless drone with absolutely no knowledge?

Yeah, but great job on the thing.

I think many of us net-citizens would be significantly reduced in our journalistic and cultural knowledge if that ever occurred.

Gotta agree with Necroswanson, Invader Zim blew as a show. None of the episodes linked together and it was extremely stupid. Sure, I had some laughs from it, but I don't want it back on TV. Ever.
