Boom Blox Sequel Coming In Spring
Boom Blox Bash Party, the sequel to last year [http://www.ea.com/boomblox/]'s Jenga-with-explosions Wii game, is coming this spring, Electronic Arts announced today.
"Boom Blox Bash Party is a wild social gaming experience," Steven Spielberg, EA's original collaborator on the franchise, said. "We know families and friends really enjoyed playing the original Boom Blox together, so we designed more explosive multiplayer experiences with Boom Blox Bash Party."
That increased emphasis on the social aspect of the game (because swinging your Wii Remote to knock down balls is just way more depressing when you're doing it alone) comes in the form of a host of new multiplayer modes, two times as many as in the original to be precise. New team-based challenges should make for good party game fodder ("You're NOT throwing it HARD enough!" screams the girlfriend to the boy), and there are also new block types, new tools (cannon, paintball and slingshot) and the ability to grab those stupid animals that inhabit the stages and throw them like regular blox.
"In Boom Blox Bash Party we are taking the game elements to the extreme," Amir Rahimi, senior producer, said. "In the original Boom Blox, we really focused on perfecting the game's physics so now we can push the boundaries of physics, offering exciting challenges and completely new ways to play."
I don't know about "taking the game elements to the extreme," but one part of the last game is getting a pretty exciting upgrade: the Create Mode. Level creation was one of the most fulfilling and long-lasting aspects of the last game, but being confined to levels made by people on your friends list really killed the potential of the mode. In Bash Party, you can go online and download levels from all Boom Blox players, rate them and submit your own as well. I look forward to penis towers that reach high in the sky and have balls made of explosive blocks at the bottom.
