NYCC: House of the Dead Overkill Hands On
Can irony make a staid light gun game fresh again? Probably not, but the marketing efforts are entertaining anyway. Inspired by the Grindhouse films of the 70's, and more probably by the recent film, Grindhouse, House of the Dead Overkill is the latest entry in the light gun series.
I can say that there's absolutely nothing new to report here. The Wiimote acts as a your gun and the game moves your character. The story and scenarios are more self consciously corny than in previous games but, if the level I played is any indication, it's still just about shooting zombies in a number of different, yet strangely similar, locales.
It's a clever conceit, to equate the House of the Dead brand with the kind of B-movie cheesiness it's always been associated with anyway, but I'm not sure it's going to be enough to make this game anything more than a fun evening rental.
Having said all that, when the hell is Typing of the Dead 2 coming out?
