Auction For Hitman Tag Hit Hard By eBay

It's happened to all of us: You go to register a username at a website or similar service, only to discover that the moniker you want is already taken. Well, some capitalizing soul realized that he could make some quick cash selling his 'Hitman' Gamertag for Xbox Live, only to have his auction closed by eBay.

Student and former Xbox Live Beta tester Chris Graziano decided to sell his Gamertag in the hopes of making a big score, and it looks like his hopes were quite justified as he watched the bids rise at high as $500. But the auction was closed down by eBay, who, according to Cnet [http://news.cnet.com/8301-10797_3-10164037-235.html], claimed that it was because they didn't traffic in 'virtual items'.

Undeterred, Graziano set up a new auction, this time selling a memory card will all the profile details on it, reasoning that eBay couldn't object to a physical item being sold. Unfortunately for Graziano, there was another objection, this time from Microsoft, who claimed that transferring Xbox Live accounts violated their terms of service. Still captivated by the idea of hitting pay dirt, he turned to Craigslist, but that too was quickly shut down.

So it appears that Graziano is stuck with the Gamertag. Poor him, I guess.

Hey, thats a pretty cool gamertag, he should keep it. I mean its the only one on Live like it right?

But if he so desperatly wanted to, he should have the right to sell it.

Eh, whatever. You would think after the second time, it would have sunk in that no one would allow him to do this. Selling accounts is illegal in many MMOs so what makes him think it's anymore legal with a gamertag?

I know I shouldn't be surprised that people would be willing to shell out at least 500 bucks for that names, but I kind of am. I know it's cool to have, but I just can't fathom paying, especially that kind of money, just for a particular gamertag.

You know what this story tells me? For any given thing, there is somebody willing to both buy and sell it.

Case in point: I sold my dignity and ideals long ago. My job was the buyer.

Interesting idea, selling your online identity for money. I agree with the conclusion though, if Microsoft does not allow it, and they created the ability to have a gamertag, and they still directly fund the livelyhood of the Live community, they should be able to say whatever they want.

Remeber, you are not purchasing Xbox Live, you are Buying your way into the community.

That's actually a really good idea.
Took the words right out of my mouth. It sucks that this guy's being stopped from selling it though, that's a good way to make $500 just for being the first to choose that name.

I personally would like to pay a lot for whoever has the name TheHebrewHammer. I tried changing my gamertag to that, but apparently it and several variations of it are taken. Which frankly I'm surprised at that. I tried a lot of variations. I'm beginning to suspect Microsoft is just saying it's taken but really they want to keep us Jews down in a massive anti-semitic conspiracy. It's not the first time I've suspected such a conspiracy.

In fact, there aren't many places that I don't suspect of being part of a massive anti-semitic conspiracy. Even this site was not safe, particularly after the mysterious and unjustified closing of the "Why all the hate on Judaism?" thread.

But I don't want to turn this thread into such a discussion. Sorry. I'll stop now.

If people can register and park domain names to later sell for cash, why not gamer tags? Some companies are a little TOO uptight in their "virtual property." It's not like Microshaft is losing money, its the same account, just with another person behind it.

You think you're joking but you're not. They're coming after us. They're all after us. ALL OF THEM. You'll see. People made fun of me before too. They said no one was out to get us. And you know what happened?

The Holocaust. Never again.

I think that is the first time I've seen a Jewish person joke about the Holocaust.
If you are in fact Jewish.
ElephantGuts: Going the extra mile.
Well yes I certainly am Jewish. And what do you mean you never heard a Jewish person joke about the Holocaust? You better not have heard anyone else joking about the Holocaust, or I'd have to kill them. So by that I'll assume you mean you've never heard any Holocaust jokes, in which case you're missing out. There are some pretty funny ones, though of course they're horrible (taste-wise) and only for Jews to say.

And for the record they are out to get us. Just look at Switzerland. I fucking hate the Swiss. And Mel Gibson. Him too.

Well, it's like me making dead baby jokes. I don't have a baby, but I still make them!
IT'S OKAY THOUGH BECAUSE I KNOW PEOPLE WITH BABIES
I always wondered if calling someone a "Jew" was offensive, instead of calling them "Jewish."
Also I've heard plenty of Holocaust jokes.
Some involved cookies.
Well first of all, no offense but it's not like a dead baby joke. If you're not a Jew, you don't tell the joke. Well, I guess it's okay if there are no Jews around to tell it for you, but still.

And again I don't want to turn this thread into a religious debate but the "A Jew" versus "Jewish" thing is really important and I want to...educate people, I guess about it. I hate when people call someone "A Jew" as an insult because it's implying that just being a Jew is a bad thing, which is even worse than calling someone a derogatory name for a Jew. It's like calling someone gay. So I try to combat it by being willing to call myself "A Jew" so people will realize it's not offensive unless you're anti-semitic and want it to be offensive, in which case I will kill you.

And I've never heard of a Holocaust joke involving cookies. Please PM it to me so I'll know it and you won't get banned.
