Putting The 'Punk' In Cyberpunk

A Korean company has created a vest with built in speakers for your MP3 player.

The vest, known as the Sound Walk, has speakers built into the shoulders and a pouch in the front for your music player of choice. A spokesman for AZA Extremes, the company that created the Sound Walk, said:

"Our products are made for the people who are using our products out doors. Even though the speakers are loud enough for the user, people standing just beside even won't hear much because of where the speakers are placed, below the ear, on the shoulder... We have developed these products to help people to listen to music while they are doing outdoor activities or exercise,"

"Listening to music by earphone is a really big problem and a hot issue in every country because it can cause serious ear damages. Earphones also add to the danger when it comes to listening to music while doing exercise or riding, for example, a bicycle or motorcycle because they can block outside noises." He added.

The vest, which has been in development for three years and runs off two AAA batteries, is available in a range of styles and colors, ranging from a simple harness-like garment to a slightly more sinister looking bullet-proof vest design. The AZA Extreme spokesman said that the vests would particularly appeal to people who liked the "military or cyber looks."

The vests are currently available in Korea, and are soon to be launched in the UK and Europe. The company's website can be found here [http://azaextremes.koreasme.com/eng/index.html].

as for the idea, it's not bad, but I sincerely doubt that I would buy one.

Sounds funny, but somehow I doubt this really works as perfectly as they tell us :p

I just wear my headphones around my neck. They're pretty powerful little bastards, and achieve the same effect. Except that the sound tends to carry. Hmm...

I think you'd sooner catch me in a snuggie than see me wearing that life-vest/Walkman abomination.

Still, they get points for trying something new.

Why would you use this for "outdoor activities" when a simple pair of headphones will do the job better?

I can imagine that being really, really annoying to the people around them. I know they said people close by will be unable to hear it but that is total bollocks. Not two days ago I heard the song of a guy using iPod earbuds about 100 feet away.

*Stares for awhile before realising the post is about the vest, not the girl, then tries to look non-chalant*

I checked the site and she isn't included.
Might get one anway though, hate exercising with earphones/headphones, they slip off and you spend most of your time putting them back in.

Yeah, true enough. I don't work out with music, because I know I'd have an ADD moment while running and be turned into pavement pancake by a driver. and when I'm in the weight room I commandeer the sound system and listen to whatever music I want.

I honestly don't know how to feel about this one.

I think for exercise it would be very useful, as I have wireless headphones, but there are range issues on that, while even if I look like an arse with it on, no one is going to see me with it on (hopefully).

The price for it will probably be eye-gouging though, so i'll sit this one out for now.

It costs about £40. Not exactly cheap, but not horrendous either.
