Police Say Adults Shouldn't Own Animal Crossing

Police in Missouri have put a new twist on age-inappropriate gaming by saying there is "no reason" adults would own games like Animal Crossing [http://animal-crossing.com/] unless they're using them as pedophile bait.

The KMIZ [http://mmictaskforce.com/default.aspx] says interacting with both in-game animals and other players is "the heart of the game," and that "to really reach the next level, the game urges you to exchange letters, gifts and favors." But what kind of favors, exactly?

The evil, child-molesting kind, apparently. "There is no reason an adult should have this game," said Task Force Coordinator Andy Anderson. He added that adults who own Animal Crossing and similar games likely have them for "the wrong reasons." Evil, child-molesting reasons, no doubt.

Susan Arendt of The Escapist [http://www.escapistmagazine.com] noted that direct communication between players could only take place under certain, easily controlled circumstances. "You can't talk to anyone unless you have their friend code," she said, prompting at least one observer to wonder exactly how, and why, she knows so much about the game.

Anderson said it will be up to parents to keep this problem from "exploding," not because it's part of their inherent child-rearing responsibilities but because Sony just will not drop the price on the friggin' PlayStation 3 [http://www.playstation.com]. Do you have any idea how much that thing costs? "The equipment is real expensive and we cannot afford to buy all of the systems and do not have the resources either to examine all of the possibilities," he said.

Rumors that Missouri has been pestering Nebraska to go halfsies on a new Xbox 360 [http://www.xbox.com] remain unconfirmed.

People really should research the topics they want to make statements about more. Apperantly they barely knew anything about the game before they started shouting about it.

Be careful everyone, Susan is preying on you.

.... This seriously sounds like an April Fools joke. I mean my mom plays the Wii and I'm pretty sure that shes not a pedophile.

When it comes to pursuing sex offenders via the internet...I'm hard pressed to think of a target MORE off-center than Animal Crossing.

read the last three paragraphs along the lines of an Onion article and you'll probably get the joke. it's a jab at PS3 prices and the real joke is that the article veers off course while keeping its tone, in much the same way that Onion articles often do.

Oh, I wouldn't be too sure. =P
But Wii is allready stampled by everyone to be for "soccer moms"

But I do agree. This sounds like someone just had some fun. It can't really be the law enforcers who said this. I mean, I see why he would say that. As for many other networks having been exploited in similare ways. But rushing out and yell pedophilia-tool like this just can't be real.

People find the oddest tings to blame now a days

Heh heh, seriously. The Animal Crossing series has been great, albeit a bit pointless in my opinion. Kinda sad they're focusing on this idiocy when anything that allows access to the internet could technically be used by predators.

That confused me as well. Although I'm sure if they get it, they will dub Home as a front for a child pornography ring or something equally ridiculous.

Damn kids get off my lawn. And my internet. When are we going to stop blaming everything and start educating them?

Very appropriate image.

And I JUST bought this game on Friday.

DAMMIT.

Me and my girlfriend love it, and I'm PRETTY SURE we're not interested in child molestation, but then again, I guess police in Missouri would know best...

i think missouri should take it a step further. screw the video game, i don't think adults should have any contact with children whatsoever. it is the only way we can be absolutely sure no sneaky pedophiles do them harm. let them fend for themselves, i mean, look how well it worked out in "Lord of the Flies", right?
