Mass Effect 2 Details Emerge on Amazon

A few more details about Amazon [http://masseffect.bioware.com/teaser/index.html].

No super-secret insider details have been released (Is he dead? Isn't he?) but the game's Amazon entry does offer a few new insights into what we have to look forward to in the second part of the series. Among the listed product features:

The second act of BioWare's epic sci-fi trilogy continues the story of Commander Shepard and humanity's first steps onto the galactic stage
Success - or failure - depends heavily on the crew you assemble and their loyalty to you and the mission
Stunning graphics and a refined dialog system will draw you into the story like never before
Numerous improvements to the intense, third-person shooter combat
Deep character customization options let you create your own vision of Commander Shepard

"The second chapter in the Mass Effect trilogy takes you to the darkest reaches of space, where you must uncover the mystery behind the disappearance of humans across many worlds," the site says. "Prepare yourself for a suicide mission to save mankind. Travel the galaxy to assemble a team of soldiers and combat specialists, and launch an all-out assault on the heart of enemy territory."

Like all good previews, this one inspires more questions than it actually answers. What happened to the crew of stalwart fellows you assembled in the first game? Is this unnamed enemy the Geth or someone entirely new? If this really is a suicide mission, won't Mass Effect 3 be awfully short? And what about... the Reapers?

Amazon has the game pegged for release on January 30, 2010. Read the whole thing for yourself right here [http://www.amazon.com/Mass-Effect-2-Xbox-360/dp/B001TORSII/ref=wl_it_dp?ie=UTF8&coliid=I34X2JQJJDZVJG&colid=1JY64C6W99LUP].

I was kind of hoping that Shepard was not the main character in ME 2. After being so OCD that I got him to Lvl 60 on the first one, the scaling issues would be borderline crazy.

Just hope it will be better optimized for PCs. I mean, I can run Mass Effect almost perfectly on High, but there are moments with twitching and stutters.

I thought it was pretty well optimised, but I am a budget gamer, so I can't vouch for large budget graphics cards.

Too obvious. I mean, probably the Geth will be (trailer...), but Reapers? Nah.

Yeah, but I think they will say "O, hay, it's almost 2011, get a better PC".

And they will have a point, the 8800 series of cars will be 4 years old by then, they are already very cheap and will run Mass effect easily. Same applies for multi- core processesors.

The end of the first game gave me the impression that the reapers were coming regardless, and the strike on the Citidel would have jsut made things alot easier and quicker.
I cant think who else it could be.... Cerebrus are pro human and none of the other alien races will dare screw with humans enough to make it into a main plot device.

Familiar with the Metroid series?

But yeah, the more I hear about this, the better I feel.

A little different there. Taking away Samus's upgrades and making her hunt them all down again is a bit different from loosing an 'epic save the universe' adventure worth of experience.

Same, to a degree. I have 3 level 60 Shepards. But if he wasn't the main character in ME2 I would miss him.

I just finished Mass Effect for the first time. Took me almost a month. I had watched the teaser trailer for the second one before I finished it, so I had myself mentally prepared for Shepard not surviving, with the 'killled in action' part. So imagine my facial expression when she (yes, my female Rhayn Shepard) jumps out from the wreckage.

But I digress. I have high hopes for Mass Effect 2 - the first installment definately jumped right into my list of favorite games. I had slightly hoped to be able to play a Quarian though, but Shepard is fine, heh.

Jennifer Hale is an amazing voice actor, by the way.

I'm done being creepy now.

Edit; I just realized how well the alias 'Rhayn' fits into both male and female characters...

I don't think it would be in their interests to reveal the role of the Reapers already. There's still, like, a whole year to go.

All those other highlights, though, are solid gold. I can't wait.

My guess is the Collectors from the novels. Seems their MO.

If i remember correctly, the Citidel was the Mass Relay required by the Reapers to be able to come out of dark space. With the keepers no longer able to be controlled via their minds, and Sovereign out of the picture, it will be interesting to see how the reapers would even activate it. Of course they could make it as simple as the Reapers reach out across space and find a mind weak enough to control and then have them do it. . . but I'd like to see it be a significant plot point as to how they might get here

Its been a while thats all. From what Saren sasy it sounds like the Reapers are on the way from deep space and citidel would just speed things up considerably and give them the edge of suprise, leaving them free to pick off other worlds one by one. There might be anohter gate, that culd be used as a failsafe or somthing? But then if it was the Reapers it would be kinda obvious, they would take a few humans, they would jsut blitz the place and eat it.
