Make Your Own Movies In The Sims 3

Filming and editing your Sims' silly adventures will be easier than ever in the newest edition of EA's megafranchise, thanks to a powerful new movie making tool included in the game.

Though Sims filmmaking is already quite the phenomenon, not everybody has the know how or time to do it. This is where The Sims 3 comes along, with its built-in Movie Maker tool.

It works kinda like one of the simple but relatively powerful programs you get on your computer like Windows Movie Maker or iMovie. You capture your footage, then go into the editing room. From there on you just drag and drop your clips into a timeline and then add your transitions, your music (from EA's readymade library of generic tunes) and cheesy visual effects like blurs, black and white, visual noise, etc. You can also add captions to your movies, which might be useful for adding subtitles to translate your Sims' gibberish language.

Once you get that done and are ready to share your masterpiece with an inevitably adoring public, you can publish to your preferred social network (you know, MyBook or whatever you kids are using these days) so all your e-friends can gander at how much you fail at being the next Spielberg. You can also set your video to private if you don't want to incur an onslaught of braindead comments from anonymous YouTubers and their ilk.

So start brainstorming ideas for Sims movies, kids. I'm already sketching out the plot for my Sims soap opera. Things are gonna get juicy.

That's kind of cool, I guess.

It's not like you couldn't do the exact same thing with The Sims 2, though - you just had to have a separate editing program.

im sure alot of ppl will still use proper editing stuff to make their machimina. But tbh any attempt to encourage fan made vids in games is good. Hope they dont add a lil clause to the warrenty saying all films belong to them & cannot be used outside the official Sims3 website or something LPB-like.

An extremely right-winged ninja becomes roommates with a very left-winged pirate.

I smell a sitcom!

ooh oooh oohh!! I love The Sims. I've been playing it since I was 9/10 or something and my boyfriend Pre-ordered the Sims 3 to make me stop annoying him saying ''Ooh I want The Sims 3, Sims 2 is boring'' well Sims 2 isn't boring it's just that I always play whenever at his house because his computer has it, but anyway Go Sims 3.

I had a look on Gamespot and they made a video using the Movie tools.

The video's were...bad, except the last one, which was pretty good.

Anyway, I hope that this means that there will be more Strangerhood.

Uhh.. it's ok I guess, but who plays Sims? Seriously, it's not even a game! (IMO of course)
I think the people who made it should feel bad. They're greedy and prey on people who can't spot bad stuff. (IMO again)

That sounds okay... but I can't imagine people sticking with Sims after all those years.

Also, one of the main things that piss me off about the game, other then grind and utter pointlessness for the most part (and no, don't argue that all video games are pointless, at least you feel some sense of achievement or interest in a story in just about any other game)
is the annoying simlish chat. You know...

Urgh.

No wonder everyone who've played Sims for a long time kills their sims off in horrible ways.
It's not pointless, it's open-ended. That's the beauty: you do whatever you like. Of course, it's easy to go to college, get straight A's and then get your job and go to the top tier of that job and become rich, then die peacefully. But you can still make your living busking, eat for free by not paying at a restaurant, adopt a million dogs and die because you got hit by a meteor. That's the way to play.
What grind? If you're grinding in The Sims, you're playing it wrong.

Great news. The Sims couuminty has always had a good community of filmmakers, and for some it's the main reason they play so news The Sims 3 will make it easier to make films means we're probably going to see some really god machinima in the future. I only hope they still allow you to grab the raw video files so that you can edit it in an outside program. After all, I'd rather edit in Final Cut than some sort of version of iMovie.

Just a bit. It'll be new-wave hentai.

Actually, you might get some Red vs Blue-esque satire as well. Depending on the creator it could turn out quite well. I can see voice clips being put over the top of it too. Hmmm...
