Apple Announces One Billion App Contest Winner

Billion App Countdown [http://www.apple.com] contest and unless you happen to be a 13-year-old boy from Connecticut, it's not you.

Connor Mulcahey, a youngster from Weston, Connecticut, downloaded the one billionth app from the Apple's iPod Touch [http://www.apple.com/iphone/appstore/].

"The revolutionary App Store has been a phenomenal hit with iPhone and iPod touch users around the world, and we'd like to thank our customers and developers for helping us achieve the astonishing milestone of one billion apps downloaded," said Philip Schiller, senior vice president of worldwide product marketing. "In nine months, the App Store has completely revolutionized the mobile industry and this is only the beginning."

Mulcahey's good timing earns him an impressive grand prize: A $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod Touch, an MacBook Pro [http://www.apple.com/timecapsule/]. Not a bad haul for grabbing a free download for his phone.

Lucky sod!

If only something similar was one for when I decide to download something. All I get are those crappy fake pop-ups. Oh woe.

Aw man, now that is a prize and a half. Wonder what he will get with the gift card, surely he'll eventually run out of music and apps to buy

Holy cow! That's incredibly lucky! That kid must have had some awesome karma built up. He probably saved 100 puppies and babies from a burning building....

Is it a special gift card or like 1000 $10 ones?
Or did they just load 10 grand to his account?
I want a picture.

Either way, that kid is a legend.

You forgot to mention, the MacBook Pro is fully customized and the iPod is 32G.... Just felt like saying that.

And to think, this much money that a fucking thirteen year old boy (who probably doesn't have any interest at all in 1TB of wireless backup and probably even a fully customized laptop) is getting could've fed five hundred starving families for a month.

Makes me sick to my stomach, just like when they throw a TV out of a window in a commercial or when Brian Reagan tries to do stand-up.

I understand you there, it is a waste of perfectly good stuff.

But it doesn't stop me from congratulating him, after all, he won it.

Holy Shit! That's honestly my town. I want that gift card, laptop, iPod touch, and backup device. Time to lock and load, and open the phone book! Though I don't really. I've never been a fan of apple's hardware, so I guess the kid can keep it. Except for the gift certificate. Hmmmm.... seems like a 5 minute cycle ride from here...

The thing is, most of the people in this town are stupidly rich, so he probably doesn't even need it...
