Rockstar Debuts Red Dead Redemption Footage

Proving that it can craft suitable gaming adaptations of classic Western revenge flicks, as well as Scorcese-esque crime dramas, Grand Theft Auto creator Rockstar Games has unveiled the first footage from Red Dead Redemption.

The game, a sequel to 2004's Red Dead Revolver, tells the tale of former outlaw James Marston as he attempts to tame the wilder parts of the American west.

While the trailer doesn't show off much in the way of actual gameplay, it does offer two solid arguments for why RDR should be on your radar.

First, the in-game dialogue and storytelling seems to mirror that found in Grand Theft Auto IV, both in its depth and mature themes and its quality.

Second, Rockstar seems to have leveraged some truly impressive graphical technology for RDR. I'm no horse biologist, but the meticulously rendered haunches featured at the 47 second mark make Lou Ferrigno look like Edward Norton.

Red Dead Redemption hits shelves the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime this Fall.

How good was Red Dead Revolver.
Only western game I actually finished and then enjoyed the multi-player.

You know it partner,

RDR was such an amazing game, great level design, controls and difficulty curve. That and all the film references make it one of my fave all time games for sure!

EDIT: I always wanted a wetern based rpg!

Grand Theft Equine? ;)

Anyway, it does look pretty good in the trailer, hopefully it'll live up to its potential. The GTA series, and the Bully have all been great to me, so hopefully Rockstar will do a good job with this.

Is it a new game or a sequel to something else?

This does look pretty darn good. I had a blast with the first one.
Not many really good western games out there. 'Outlaws' by Lucas Arts, 'Gun', and The First Red Dead were the only ones I ever enjoyed.

Let's hope this ends up as good as the trailer.

I really liked the classic Leon'esque flavor of the first one, can't wait for this one. Especially since it looks like they're putting a lot more work into it.

This looks amazing. More westerns, please.
Yes... I really can't wait for this. I was going to buy the original because I only rented it back in the day. I won't mind the more mature tone in this game to be honest though, because its fitting for the setting. I just hope to God it doesn't get delayed =/

Sure it looks nice but after GTA4 I'm expecting another all flash no fun type of game.

I really love No Country For Old Men, the book and the film, and now I can't get enough of Western themes in anything. Plus I plan to play this with a friend. This is going to be awesome.

Sounds to me like this is GTA4 converted into a Western theme.

And that's a good thing. I'm sure none of GTA4's awesomeness will be lost in the transition. Hell, there might be some awesomeness added in.
