Halo 3: ODST Leads Post-E3 Consumer Interest

A survey conducted by research firm Nielsen in the wake of E3 earlier this month shows Halo 3: ODST, God of War III and Wii Sports Resort leading consumer interest.

More than half of the people surveyed in a consumer interest study [http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/media_entertainment/who-won-the-battle-for-gamers%E2%80%99-hearts-at-e3/] conducted by Nielsen said that they are "definitely or probably interested" in buying Halo 3: ODST. The survey, which was conducted between June 7 and 14 found 53% of consumers were interested in ODST, 49% in God of War III and 45% in Wii Sports Resort.

Those titles were followed by Guitar Hero 5, Final Fantasy XIII, Madden 2010, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, Assassin's Creed 2, two Need for Speed games, NCAA Football and finally, The Beatles: Rock Band.

Nielsen notes that of the games that made the top 12 for consumer interest, most of them had "either a trailer was released or gameplay was demoed in some form at E3." The game that garnered the most "E3 buzz [http://blog.nielsen.com/nielsenwire/online_mobile/major-e3-announcements-fuel-big-buzz-for-gaming-companies]" according to another Nielsen survey was New Super Mario Bros Wii, a game that didn't crack the top 12 for consumer interest despite being a Mario game and having a 2009 release date.

More interestingly, Nielsen says that "most [games] moved up or down 1-2 percent, which is well within the margin of error. In other words, games that already tugged at gamers' hearts held on." At least in terms of what games people want to buy and as far as this survey is concerned, E3 didn't change much, it seems.

Only thing surprising there is Need for Speed. Didn't realize anyone cared about what has become an extremely unfocused arcade racing franchise. At least others like GT, Burnout, PGR, etc. know what they're bringing to the genre.

Also, FYI your summary says "God of War II"

Wow ODST is beating God of War 3? That's a shame, seeing how God of War 3 looks crazy sic while ODST sounds like a pile of overpriced shit. And thats coming from someone who still plays Halo 3 semi-regularly and owns the collectors edition of it. But then again, I never do trust those Nielsen survey things anyways.

I have to admit, Wii Sports Resort is very interesting.

I mean, come on, 1:1 swordfighting? Who doesn't want that?

Oh please god let this be a sign that ODST will be good. You've already disappointed me with 3, no reason to make me more of a sad panda.
Yeah, its not like their going to recycle the multiplayer oh wait.... :(

I think the subtext of this story is much more interesting than the poll numbers. E3 was the biggest dog on the block back in the 90's and early 00's, but it seems to have lost much of its relevance with the gaming crowd. I would be interested to see whether other industry shows changed hearts and minds more than E3.

This is sad.

I wouldn't be surprised if interest for The Last Guardian is at -3%, fuck Video Game consumers and their need for shitty sequels to over-rated games.

I thought 2 was worse. 3 was focused at least... But to be on-topic: I wants mah Beatles! ODST will probably be fun, but I'm more interested in rockin' out to Yellow Submarine.

I haven't played 2 in a while but I remember it fondly. 3 just felt... Stale. Maybe because by that point Bioshock heightened my standards. Plus the ending felt cheap, and for some reason the last few missions had paintings in the background cutscenes.

Also, does Yellow Submarine even have EDIT: (Damn post button) guitar?
2 tried to innovate too much at the same time. To use a metaphor: 2 was a juggler who was just starting to learn how to throw three balls in the air. 3 is the same juggler, but in between games he learned how to juggle chainsaws that are on fire.

I don't even know if Yellow Submarine is even in the game... but I hope it is. If not, there's plenty of other songs.

2 was a high point for the series, while 3 was the point everyone started hating Halo.
Halo 1 was the only 'good' one of the series. Mainly because it had same-console coop. By the time 2 came out, it was like "Wait, what? People actually liked this game enough to warrant a sequel?"

Seriously? That's how you felt? Me and three friend somehow fitted a four ffa/2v2 everytime we met up. When we heard about halo2 we where like "Omfg, we get to use that sword. Oh wow the graphics are the tits and also aww multiplayer on xbox live is gonna be so sweet."

In fact I remember following it to death hearing about the multiplayer aspects etc. I don't ever remember hearing anyone say there shouldn't be a sequal. Unless you count "If they repeat that timed ending crap again I'll be soooo pissed."

Wow I mis-spent my childhood.

I want Helter Skelter more though, seems like it'd be a funner song to play.
Methinks that was due less to the quality of Halo 3, and more due to people taking Microsoft seriously in the console wars.
