New Syndicate Game Confirmed

Sources have confirmed that Electronic Arts [http://www.starbreeze.com/].

The collaboration between Starbreeze and EA was Syndicate [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/81647-EA-Inks-Deal-with-Starbreeze-for-Secret-Project].

That rumor has now been confirmed: Bourne [http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/starbreeze-working-on-new-syndicate-title-for-ea] game, is finished.

Syndicate was originally developed by Peter Molyneux's legendary Bullfrog Productions [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullfrog_Productions] and released in 1993. Set in a dystopian future in which the world is ruled by ruthless, gigantic corporations, the game put players in charge of a four-member squad of cybernetic agents tasked with jobs including kidnapping, targeted assassination, stealing other corporations inventions for the boys in R&D and occasional bursts of intense, drug-fueled slaughter.

The gameplay was simplistic, ridiculously violent and very, very satisfying. But after the Populous [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndicate:_American_Revolt] but noted that EA holds all the right, saying, ""They're hardly going to pick up the phone and say, 'Hi Peter. Why not do these games?'"

It may not be Bullfrog but Swedish developer Starbreeze has some noteworthy success to its name as well, including The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena [http://www.2kgames.com/thedarkness/], coming in April.

The first one is great, but it's ugly as sin by today's standards, and difficult to get running on a modern PC.

16 years is a long time in game standards. But in its day, yeah, Syndicate was brilliant. I have powerful doubts they'll be able to duplicate that winning formula, but I'm hopeful.

The Syndicate mission I remember the most was assassinating someone in a convoy before they reached their goal. The streets were filled with bystanders and police officers. Like other missions, it was completely up to you how to approach the mission. Surprisingly, at least for me, I took the direct approach of attacking the convoy. Normally I'm more of a "stealth" guy.

it was light years ahead of its time with loads of customisation, different approaches, combat drugs, the works. Gauze guns were epic. Im so excited a little bit of wee came out...

I still have nightmares about the Atlantic Excelerator.

Oops, I've gone and soiled myself again. That's awesome news; I love the originals. I remember upgrading my PC just so I could play it.

I'm tipping they'll probably redo it as some sort of 3rd person, multiplayer, action affair with an RPG levelling type of system for the enhancement/R&D aspect of the game.

never played the origional. Am somewhat intersted in this remake but somehow I suspect the old game will be replaced by a shiney graphics FPS with a storyline involving government conspiracies & the illuminati. I hope im wrong.

Here's how you make this game perfect. Make it a FPS/RPG like Deus Ex. Add mesmotron. Done.

On that note, make another Deus Ex. One that isn't dead to me.

I'm filled with both Syndicate Wars based, nostalgic glee and pessimistic dread...

God I hope it turns out well, I loved that game so much...

The Persuadatron was the nuts, I remember in Syndicate Wars you could have a whole army of mindless civilians and punks following you about.

This remake will be rubbish no doubt but then I wasnt planning on paying for it anyways

Come back Bullfrog, all is forgiven!

Maybe there'll be a demo, you can try it out before you decide.

As for me, I don't remember much about the game except that in those days I tended to eschew stealth and style for the brute-force approach. It's tough to say "no" to four cranked-up badasses with miniguns. As you can imagine, civilian casualties were... high.

Win! Pure 110% win!

If this has multiplayer then check my pulse, because I may have died and gone to gamer heaven!

Look at what titles Starbreeze are well known for and you can see this will be yet another shooter. As it's coming on console ass well as PC, it won't be a shooter that stretches your intelligence either. The problem with re-makng classic games of old, is that they have to be changed to fit into this dumbed down multiformat market. The reason X-Com and Syndicate and Planescape Torment and Civilization and Darklands and Falcon 4.0 are sophisticated, deep games, is because they originally were written exclusively for PC and PC gamers who had the sensibilities to enjoy these games where many console gamers would not have.

Do you really think, in today's market, a Civilization would be released? Or an X-Com? Or a Falcon 4.0? Exactly. Hence my belief we will be disappointed with this Syndicate re-make.
