Dragon Age Demo Unlikely, But There Will Be Sex

Dragon Age: Origins [http://www.bioware.com] before the full game launches but on the upside, there will be sex.

BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk said the nature of Dragon Age: Origins, built around the concept of numerous character origin stories that lead to differing RPG experiences, makes it difficult to come up with an effective demo, especially when the studio is focusing on the development of the game. "The way the game's set up actually makes it hard for a demo because there are six origin stories and we don't know whether to just pick one or a couple," he told CVG [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=219115].

He did say, however, that a demo was a very real possibility at some point after the game comes out. "It's not likely that we'll have a demo ready for release, but very shortly after we'll probably figure out some parameters where we chop the game into pieces and make them available for people to experience," he added.

While a demo might not be in the cards, Zeschuk said sex - or love scenes, at least - came under fire [http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=219045] for including a brief sex scene between the protagonist and an NPC but according to Zeschuk, the inclusion of such material "makes sense" in some games.

"It's interesting because I think the Mass Effect thing was completely over-blown. There wasn't even really nudity; it was like the side of a leg. I think some of the press took huge advantage of the situation. The reality was that it was the kind of stuff you'd see on evening television," Zeschuk said.

"I think from our perspective we want to reflect real human relationships. If you're trying to have a relationship with a character we want to reflect that and the impact of the connection with that character. And if that involves some sort of intimate scenes, we want to provide those for the player," he continued. "It's based on the fact that this is a sophisticated, mature experience."

Dragon Age: Origins is scheduled for release on October 20 on the PC, PlayStation 3 [http://www.xbox.com].

This is going to be one hell of a game to run on the PC, wasn't it a 20GB install?
(read it on some other thread)

and...where we chop the game into pieces and... made me lol a bit.

Sounds like a good game with or without sex

I agree about the sex part. Mass Effect was blown way out of the water, and at least Bioware doesn't care if people recognize it as offensive.

I'm getting it specifically for the sex scenes. I'm interested in how they'll be sophisticated and mature.

Okay, Bioware. You need to stop advertising your sex-scenes. Right now.

Sex scenes in games are fine. However, constantly advertising them and making them a selling point of your game is not. Not to mention it's a blatant way of guaranteeing you have the teenagers' cash, but it also attracts all the attention you even said you didn't want.

... At this rate, it seems Bioware is putting all it's hopes for selling the game in the promise of a few sex-scenes.... hell, they might as well link porn-sites....

Fox is going to have a field day, Bioware is going to get free publicity, and it's going to be HILARIOUS(ly stupid).

It also makes purchasing the game awkward.
"Isn't that the game with all of the sex?!"
"You'd know better than I, random motherfucking cashier, considering you probably haven't known a woman's touch since you were smacked by the doctor. Now ring up the fucking purchase already."

Awkward.
On the upside, there will be a demo, so at least I'll know if buying this is possible.
Reminds me of when I was picking up a WoW game card for a friend and the cashier starts rambling about the fucking thing. He even yells after me as I walk out, facepalming, "THEY SAID THERE WAS NO COW LEVEL!"

I can't even show my face in that freddies anymore.

I knew there was going to be sex in this game, I just didn't know that Bioware was soo eager to jump into this sex scandal debacle again!

If you're going to put sex in the game, fine; just don't advertise it too loudly, or the Republicans might hear it!

Also, give us a demo!

The problem isn't that they are putting in sex/romance as part of the game...

The problem will be if it looks anything like that teaser trailer. That just looked wrong.

Very true,it didn't look like a particularly sophisticated addition in the trailer.

And surely a simple demo of one origin would at least provide a taste of the gameplay? Which is all I want of a demo really.

And, Malygris, where did you come by his comments about sex in Dragon Age? It's not on the CVG link you provided, and I like to know the context of a comment before ranting about it being treated as a titillating feature in a fairly mindless blockbuster, rather than as a complex exploration of relationships.

Regarding sex... I just lost a whole lot of interest for the game. In-game sex is a cheap way to get sales for an otherwise crappy product.

And agree with above... Dragon Age: Online has a Mori valley problem that sex is only going to complicate.

Bioware, I don't care how much sex is in this game, I just know that video game sex is weird, awkward, and creepy. All because of that wonderful "uncanny valley". We're humans, we see and have sex a lot, we know what it's like, but then we see the video game characters with their choppy/unfluid animations and weird textures and facial animations and we'll either laugh, cringe, or do both, because it looks like 2 disneyland animatronic robots are trying to fuck.

All I'm saying Bioware, is that this sexing should be perfect if you're gonna advertise it like it's important.
