Get Gouged For Horse Armor, Again

Bethesda's humorously celebrating the third anniversary of its epochal Horse Armor DLC by slashing the price of all Oblivion downloadable content in half while doubling, yes, doubling, the price of Horse Armor for a limited time.

Years from now when we're looking back through the tomes of gaming history, Horse Armor [http://obliviondownloads.com/StoreCatalog_ProductView.aspx?ProductId=2] will be the first section in a chapter about how DLC changed everything. No exaggeration: Horse Armor set the precedent for the microtransactions for everything from in-game clothing to alternate costumes in Street Fighter IV that we now accept as commonplace. Horse Armor changed things, man.

In celebration of the third anniversary of that historical occasion and in the spirit of April Fools, Bethesda is having a little fun. They're putting all Oblivion DLC on Xbox Live on sale for half off...except for Horse Armor, which will cost double the amount. Yes, double. The sale will run from April 3 (this Friday) through the 7th. And no, this isn't a joke...I've checked, and yes, the Horse Armor now costs a whopping 400 Microsoft Points. I'm sure they're all having a good old laugh about this over in Maryland.

Of course, this also means that all the Oblivion expansion packs are half off, which is a pretty nice deal if you haven't checked them out yet. So I guess we should be grateful.

I bet some people will buy the overpriced horse armour...

And Horse Armour represents everything that is wrong with DLC.

No love for the PC Oblivion players? Oh well, I guess it is because we have the mods, eh? :p

That is pretty funny about the Horse Armor increase... very strange way to make a joke indeed.

In 20 years, I can see myself sitting in a rocking chair and talking about the gaming past like this

"Back when we still had to use that keyboard...Horse Armor was where it's at."

This may tempt me to get the Shivering Isle expansion, actally.
WOW you have been missing out all this time. Shivering Isles is like regular Oblivion on acid, which is a more literal analogy than you might expect. Maybe this is going too far but I actually don't like the rest of Oblivion (the far superior Fallout 3 ensured this) but I still find Shivering Isles to be heaps of fun.

So yeah now's the time to get it man.

Honestly, I find DLC extremely annoying. Horse Armour is just the best example of what's wrong with it. I wish more developers would go the Valve and CDProjekt route and release the new stuff for free, or at least package a ton of it into an expansion, instead of making people pay for every tiny piece.

Maybe if they spent more time fixing thier broken DLC instead of dreaming up april fools jokes I'd be more inclined to laugh at it...

You'd think that with lackluster DLC still coming out for Fallout 3 they would want to downplay how crappy and overpriced their DLC has been in the past.

Well, I'm cheap, lazy, and I had Oblivion on the PS3, so I didn't really care much for DLC at the time.
