Future Battlefields in the Palm of Your Hand

"DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) is a research and development organization for the Department of Defense. Created after the Soviets shocked the world with the launching of Sputnik in 1957, it's been changing battlefields ever since. Its primary mission has been to keep U.S. Military technology a step or two ahead of its enemies. By the looks of it, one of its secondary missions is supplying the Army with weaponry that gamers have already mastered."

I think it's fascinating just how far technology has come recently, and just how determined we seem to be to turn it into something you can kill people with. Lasers? Seriously?

But seriously, very interesting article.

I don't see how more powerful REAL guns are a good thing.

Dog was pretty cool though.

...what an elaborate game of attack/defend we have going on here. Missiles, anti-missile lasers, laser shielded missiles, next we'll be designing missiles that can deshield shielded missiles...pretty much we're playing rock paper scissors up in the sky.

The Power Armour rig looked stunning - finally, new technology that doesn't have to be used to melt someone's face from 5 miles away.

The applications of this technology for the emergency services, firefighting and policing in particular, would be incredible. Could you imagine a team of firefighters capable of braving intense heat, moving or destroying debris and carrying unconscious vistims to safety with absolute ease and security?

I want to be a cyborg firefighter.

Greater military strength contributes to greater peace and security. Being able to kill people with greater efficiency is definitely a good thing from a political perspective.

kinda funny, with all the money spend on better weapons, you could just BRIBE all the other countries into peace! and you would probably still have enough left to cure aids enz.

but i still have that funny little voice in my head that says: guns are good, explosions are good, big minigun-wielding robots are good!

and honestly, how cool would it be to have your very own deathstar! (ok there are no planets with people living on it as far as we know now, but you could at least blow up the sun for the fireworks :D )

The edit button is the height of our society and if you still don't need it, there's no need to mass post.
But if they start chargin' up their laza beams, than they may be able to Shoop da Whoop.

At some point, what if we become the aliens and start dominating the universe with our excessive lust for bigger and better weapons.

Damn skippy! That futuristic.

The only problem is: If the suits are made, then people would just use the BigDog or teh lazorz to take them out...
