Interplay Moves One Step Closer to Project V13

Masthead Studios [http://www.interplay.com] to develop the MMOG codenamed Project: V13, the game everyone thinks is a massively multiplayer Fallout game.

Interplay and Masthead will collaborate, under Interplay's "direction and control," to complete the project, which has been in development since late November 2007. As part of the deal, the game will make use of tools and technology developed by Masthead for use in its Earthrise [http://www.play-earthrise.com/] MMOG, which is currently slated for released in the second half of 2009.

"We are looking forward to turning the vision of our game designers into a compelling online gaming experience," said Interplay CEO Herve Caen. "The planning and design completed for Project: V13 thus far, combined with Masthead's resources, tools, and growing team of dedicated MMOG developers, will bring this unique game to reality."

"This arrangement is ideal because it leverages the technology our professionals have specifically built for advanced massively multiplayer online games into what we expect will be a groundbreaking Interplay gaming title," added Masthead President Atanas Atanasove, who said the deal with Interplay wouldn't affect the schedule of Masthead's own post-apocalyptic MMOG. "Earthrise's development and launch will continue as planned", he said.

Interplay hasn't yet made a formal announcement but the assumption that Project: V13 is a Fallout-based MMOG is widely held, for several reasons. The title itself appears to be a clear reference to Vault 13, the home of the original Vault Dweller, and there's also the hard-to-ignore fact that part of Interplay's deal to sell the Fallout rights to licensing the rights [http://fallout.bethsoft.com] to a Fallout-based MMOG. And really, what else does Interplay have going for it?

Hmmm... I'll more believe it when I see it. Interplay imploded a long time ago, and I doubt they have the cash to make anything like an MMO.

At least that much is true: it will be "groundbreaking" purely by virtue of being an Interplay title post-shutdown.

That looks like the bastard child of Fallout, Diablo, and Jagged Alliance. ME WANT!
Ain't that just Fallout 2? Hmmm, looks like "New California" entry point to me ... -cough- ... [charges into closet to find the Fallout 2 French Edition]

on-topic: There is another challenger to a post-apocalyptic MMO, in the form of Fallen Earth [http://blog.wired.com/games/2009/03/video-gameplay.html], which really looks like Fallout Online, in both it's short description of a land filled with "raiders, mutants and other monsters", and post-nuclear genocide in the states.

Either way, time to explore middle-earth!

Could be. Never played it.
Yeah it is.
I would literally kill for a Fallout MMO.
Whether or not it would kill the atmoshpere of being one of a handful of survivors in a post-apocalyptic world is debatable though.

Wow, that looks like a completely shameless Fallout rip-off - in that trailer I saw things that look just like super mutants, ghouls, deathclaws, even a behemoth, sort of (the giant thing chasing that character). I suppose people will have to turn to it if they never make an actual Fallout MMO, though.

Masthead studios? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
first of all "Earthrise" is looking to be a shitty generic mmorpg same like every other out in the market, second theyr graphic engine SUCK, Bethesda already have an engine which would fit Fallout... i think now that Fallout online won't be a good game, maybe Interplay will do something to make it different from other mmorpgs, but as long as i saw that Earthrise shit i won't think good about FOOL
