Rumor: Bionic Commando Dev Facing Closure

Swedish developer Terminator Salvation [http://www.grin.se/], has reportedly laid off "significant" numbers of employees and may be facing closure.

Grin was rumored to be hit with heavy layoffs Gamasutra [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/92006-Massive-Layoffs-Rumored-at-GRIN] now says that the company actually pulled the plug on its offices in Barcelona, Spain and Gothenburg, Sweden as far back as June of this year, closures which apparently went unreported by the English-language press. Now it seems that Grin's main office in Stockholm is also in trouble, with sources claiming that employees have been told to stay home and that the studio may be in the middle of "some kind of closing or bankruptcy procedure."

Grin's sinking fortunes stem from the games Bionic Commando, Wanted: Weapons of Fate [http://thewanted.warnerbros.com/] and Terminator Salvation, all of which were released in 2009 to "mixed" critical reception and sub-par sales.

Prior to that, Grin's cachet had risen steadily through games like Advanced Warfighter 2 [http://ghostrecon.us.ubi.com/], and the 2008 Bionic Commando remake Bionic Commando Rearmed. In fact, prior to this year Grin's star appeared to be on the rise: Grin Barcelona was only opened in 2007 while the Gothenburg facility was even newer, opening its doors in January 2008.

We're awaiting an official response from the company on its status and will update when we have more.

Man, they're dropping like flies now. I'm gonna keep saying it, this generation is poison. Let's hope the big three learn from the mistakes of this generation and not take such huge risks next generation.

Best news all day!

These guys made Terminator Salvation, that was a point of no return right there. Nobody could seriously make a game like that and expect to survive it, it may as well have been called Terminator: Publisher repellant.

It's a bit of a shame as GRAW was pretty good, but since then it's been an XBLA game and dire retail products. Who ever made GRAW a success had clearly left the building.

They should try a new business model whereby their games dont suck. Perhaps that would pull them out from this slump?

Haven't heard a lot of good about their latest games, but I haven't tried them myself. Even still, it is always sad to see a studio go down. Hopefully the rumors are just that.

When you take part in crappy Hollywood spinnoffs...those chances are slim...

Can someone explain to me why they just don't let some other company buy them out...It wouldn't mean all the employees would get to stay...but still most of them would...
