CCP Announces the EVE Fanfest 2009 Pub Crawl
EVE Fanfest 2009 [http://fanfest.eveonline.com/] is rapidly approaching and CCP has added a new twist to the event with the "EVE Online Pub Crawl With a Dev," a booze-fueled trek through the icy streets of Reykjavik.
Q&A panels with developers are nice. Spending time with an early build of an upcoming game is fun. Talking with fellow fans can be entertaining. But can any of that really compare with the prospect of getting drunk off your ass in the company of the people who make one of the most unique MMOGs in the world?
The crew at CCP doesn't think so and thus they've put together the "Pub Crawl With a Dev," a chance for gamers attending EVE Fanfest 2009 in Reykjavik, Iceland, to hang out and get loaded with the guys. In order to keep things manageable, the pub crawl will be organized into 12 separate groups, each with up to 25 players and a member of the EVE development team. The groups will be accompanied by an English-speaking guide who will tell them about Icelandic history, the impact of the recent economic crash and, most important of all, "where the action is when the sun goes down."
Pub crawlers will get free shots of hákarl [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brenniv%C3%ADn] (which is apparently putrefied shark meat), puffin, pickled whale, burned sheeps heads "and a few Viking Beers!" The crawl will hit at least four bars and clubs in Reykjavik and will ultimately end up at the EVE Bar, where patrons will have VIP access and discounted rates for the entire weekend.
This sounds like a brilliant idea to me, but unfortunately I'm not going to be in Reykjavik on October 1. If you are, and don't mind the idea of proving your manhood by eating pulverized ram's balls and rotten fish (or at least think you can get tanked up enough that you won't care), go to fanfest.eveonline.com [http://fanfest.eveonline.com/Pub-Crawl-with-a-Dev.html] to sign up!
