Gamers Rack Up 1.2 Million Matches in Uncharted 2 Demo

PlayStation 3 owners have taken rather fondly to the multiplayer demo of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, charting up a combined 1.2 million games played in little more than a week.

Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells posted some interesting numbers for the Uncharted 2 multiplayer demo on PlayStation Blog [http://blog.us.playstation.com/2009/10/uncharted-2-among-thieves-by-the-numbers/]. There must be some hearty back-slapping going on at the Naughty Dog cafeteria, since these figures would seem to indicate quite a bit of interest in Nathan Drake's second adventure:

* Total Number of games played - 1,217,424
* Total Number of Kills - 92,110,787
* Total Number of Treasures Captured - 1,860,645
* Total Amount of Money Earned - $38,841,367,350
* Total Time Played - 9,905 days (or 27+ years!)
So in just over a week, gamers have killed 92 million people in 1.2 million games (that's 76.6 kills per game, in case you were curious) and earned a whopping $39 billion for doing so. "Drake's Fortune," indeed. The demo "is currently #1 out of the top 5 demo first-week downloads to date, and is on a trajectory to become the most downloaded demo on PSN, ever."

At least 23 of those kills were mine in a totally awesome round of Deathmatch on the Plaza map last night, by the way. It was badass: Three members of our (five-person) team ended up disconnecting or leaving, and so it ended up being two-on-four, since one of theirs had ditched, too. Through the use of stealthy guerrilla tactics and general ass-kicking-tude, we fought the odds and came from behind to win! Not that I'm trying to brag, or anything.

But yeah, the demo's good, and people are enjoying it, which comes as a stunning surprise. The game still has an absurd score on Metacritic. Life at Naughty Dog must be pretty sweet for the time being.

you son-of-a-gun. Nothing else can be a proper response to something like that.

Anyway, on topic, It looks like a hell of a good game... just too bad it's PS3 only... I'm sure I'll get over it... someday. (Like the FF8 Postcard. hehehe)

This is shaping up to be the PS3's Halo: as in, a game that SELLS A CONSOLE.

Which means that in about a month, we'll see a bunch of people hating on it everywhere, and the PS3 fanboys will finally know the pain that they put the 360 players through back in the day. Then, after about two years, Sony will announce a PS4, and IT WILL BE GLORIOUS!

(EDIT: The PS4 is likely a daydream, but I still have high hopes for Uncharted 2. I might be forced to purchase a PS3 despite it's lack of BC thanks to that game and all the awesome exclusives on the way.)

I don't think you're missing anything, I can't seem to find it in the Europe store.

I've won matches with 45 Kills and 3 Deaths for me.
I just like it when someone takes it upon themselves to go guerrilla and win.
It requires tactics, which you don't see in many FPS. well, I don't see them :p

Gods and I'm already happy when my kill-death ratio is positive. Then again, I usually play objective-based games, you die a lot in those, but Plunder is so much fun.

This would be the only reason I buy a PS3. And boy am I tempted.

The only thing holding me back (besides money) is that there's nothing else I'm interesting in other than inFamous.

You feel the same way? I've been debating whether to get that or a laptop.

At the moment, the laptop is winning.

Mainly a PC gamer and I've got a 360 as well for the odd exclusive. Can't justify buying a £250 console for one game xD

There's not even any games on the horizon for it so... Maybe later.

Not to get off topic, but don't tell Jack Thompson this game has raked up over 92 million kills. He'd jump all over that.

But seriously, it's nice the U2 demo has gotten such good playtime lately. I downloaded it myself, but I didn't understand it. Guess I gotta try it some more.

What the hell kind of milestone is that? Come back in a couple days with one hundred million kills or 2 million games played!

I'm kidding (sort of), that game looks awesome. Almost gives me the compelling urge to own a PS3.

Sounds like a damn fine game, shame it's only on PS3.

Glad people are having this much fun with the demo.

It is truly awesome, but am I the only one who's having a hard time getting into a match?

Nope. I can't seem to find a match either. I love the way it says "Looking for Ideal Match.....Close Match........Any Match" I mustn't be cool enough to play :(

Haha!

Yeah, I keep waiting for it to say "Looking for someone desperate enough to play with your sorry ass."

I find it strange that there's no way to simply join a game rather than always having to be party leader. I hope they get that sorted out in the actual game.

I really enjoyed it - not that I was great at it. Single player on Crushing has nothing on human elements.

On the strength of the first game as well this is a definite purchase.
