Will BlizzCon 2010 be in Las Vegas?

Will next year's BlizzCon make the move from sunny Anaheim, California to the glitz and glamor of casinotown Las Vegas? According to the Las Vegas Convention Center, it will.

The past three BlizzCon events - celebrating all things Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo and more - have all been held right across from Disneyland in the this listing on the Las Vegas Convention Center's website [http://www.anaheimconventioncenter.com/custom.cfm?name=main_noflash.cfm&CFID=2444876&CFTOKEN=430253] is correct, not only will next year's main event be switching venues, it'll be switching entire states.

In case this gets taken down (which isn't hard to imagine), here's what it says:

[blockquote]BlizzCon 2010
Venue: Las Vegas Convention Center
Start Date: 07/30/2010
End Date: 07/31/2010
Attendees: 30,000
URL: www.blizzcon.com[/blockquote]

If the above information is correct, BlizzCon will be on July 30th and 31st of next year - and those two dates are Friday and Saturday, the same as with previous BlizzCon events.

We've pinged Blizzard for an official quote on the matter, and will update accordingly. It's hard to imagine that a (imaginably) reputable venue like the LVCVA would just make something like that up, so there may well be truth to the matter. It's an odd choice, though - the Anaheim center worked well for the PC developer since it was less than a half-an-hour drive from its Irvine, CA campus, making it extremely easy for Blizzard employees to enjoy the show themselves. Las Vegas is a much longer commute, though if you want to put on a show there's no better place to be.

Personally, I'd be a bit bummed if only since it would make it harder to go visit the Blizzard offices again, but hey, Viva Las Vegas, Baby!

Update: Blizzard, predictably, is staying mum: "We haven't announced any details regarding our next BlizzCon, so please refrain from making any travel plans at this time."

Don't book your tickets to Vegas just yet, folks.

The old convention center was nice, but it's way too small for the kind of demand that they get for BlizzCon. My guess is that they went shopping for a nearby convention center that would allow more for people to attend.

The recession is hitting Nevada hard...a lot of foreclosures too I think...

Blizzard probably got a great deal in Vegas.

I moved away from Nevada two years ago. The only reason I've never gone to Blizzcon is because of the distance and my lack of transportation.

Why do you do this to me now, Blizzard?

Too small? There were 40k tickets sold last year and the Vegas center only lists 30k tickets, it looks like a stupid move people wise if you ask me. They already lose money when they put this on, why shoot themselves in the foot by keeping another 10k rabid fans from going(or rather another 10k fucking scalpers from selling tickets)

Though it makes sense in its own twisted way, next year will be the 5th blizzcon(if I've kept count right) and perhaps blizzard wants to celebrate that with a full on Vegas blowout spectacular. Can someone say Starcraft on ice? Diablo floor show? Warcraft the Musical?

Yes, they did not have a big enough center. In vegas, the new one can hold upwards of 200,000 people. There will be much needed space now.

Hahaha! The Convention Center is a 20 minute drive from my house. This year's BlizzCon is gonna rock.

30,000 attendees? Isn't that a little small for what they wanted this time around?

The source link has a couple of updates:
Update 4:15 p.m. PST: Blizzard has responded to let us know that they haven't announced any details regarding their next BlizzCon, and that they recommend everyone refrain from making any travel plans at this time. However, the Las Vegas Convention Center has confirmed this booking and continues to list it on their calendar.

Update 10:50 p.m PST: Blizzard has contacted us further and said "As we haven't announced any details about the next BlizzCon, we can say it won't be held in Las Vegas." We're currently in contact with the LVCC and Blizzard, and will hopefully be able to provide more details on exactly what's going on in the future.
Talking to a friend of mine (who lives in Vegas actually), and he's saying that if Blizzard reserved the convention center, but has sine canceled that reservation, LVCC will keep it listed for public viewing so that it looks like there's a full calendar. So until someone comes along to actually reserve that weekend, it'll continue to be posted as being reserved for BlizzCon.

So it's possible that's what we're seeing here.

hmmmm so does this mean they could have a WoW themed brothel at the convention?
Well I'm pretty sure at least one couple will have a Wow themed wedding during the event.

With any luck, the CosPlayers will just be confused for the regular crazies in Vegas.

Only one? I think you underestimate Vegas and Warcraft fans. I also expect a Starcraft and Diablo style wedding as options.

Well, we are still in a very low point in terms of the economy, so lower expectations are regarded as a must. Plus, having to turn away people because you didn't have enough space spins better then empty seats.
