Braid Arts Up the PlayStation 3

Jonathan Blow's creative, temporal platformer has at last made it through the timestream to the PlayStation Network.

Most people have either already played Braid, or determined that they have no desire to because they despise its creator, Jonathan Blow. For the rest of the population, the game has now hit the PlayStation Network for the price of $14.99.

Braid is a side-scrolling platformer where the player has control over various aspects of time. Each level is basically a puzzle that must be solved, with new time-controlling abilities constantly introduced throughout the game. The main character is a regular guy, but has at one time been described as "Mario from the future." [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSXofLK5hFQ]

Though many thought Braid was overpriced when it was first released on Xbox Live Arcade well over a year ago, $14.99 doesn't seem like such a big deal now. I know it gave me a good 5-6 hours of gameplay, which is acceptable because the variety of gameplay made its entirety compelling. When we pay $4 for a comic book that lasts 10 minutes, or $12 for a 1.5 hour-long movie, I have no problem supporting a developer that made a really cool 6 hour experience I enjoyed for $15.

If you like "indie" style games, and for some reason haven't played Braid yet, it's a safe bet. The time-controlling mechanics may seem like a gimmick, but they're done in a smart way, tasking players to do more than just fast-forward and reverse.

Wait, why would I despise Jonathan Blow? I just never bought the game because it really isn't my cup of tea. Then again I thought the same of Beyond Good and Evil...

He annoys all the right people, which actually makes him even more awesome.
I must be one of the right people then. :p

I'm actually not interested in the game, though that has nothing to do with my searing hate against Blow. No need to let personal distaste get between me and a good game. It just seems... meh in my eyes. And I realise that I'm likely wrong here. :)

That depends on what you want from a game. It's one of the greatest puzzle games of all time and is brilliantly crafted. That means that if you hate him there is plenty of scope for you to complain about how the difficulty ruins the experience and how you could have done parts of it better if it was your game. :)

Lol! That actually a brilliant and strangely compelling argument for me to buy the game. I should look into that when I get some more money.

Spend the last I had on buying [Shattered Horizon[/i] which I incidentally heartily can recommend! It's a bit rough around the edges at this point but I'm confident that it's a good investment I made. High hopes and all. :D

Hey this game is neat. I've been waiting for it to come to the the psn, when I swore I'd buy it. Has a similar game-play integrated with plot feeling as portal, though done in a completely different way. It's very indie, for better or worse: very few enemy types, recycled maps.
But it's good, and worth the money. The art is very appealing, and the game puts you in a pretty neat state of mind. I think I'd have thought this was the best game ever 10 years ago, during my *ahem* experimental years.

Blow claims video games is approaching art form...which is cool.

He then bashed World of Warcraft...which is bad, considering its huge following.
