MW2 Voice Actor Says Call Of Duty Movie In Works

Kevin McKidd, who voices "Soap" MacTavish in the Call of Duty series, reports that talks have begun on bringing the game to the silver screen.

According to a brief chat with Kevin McKidd, the Scottish actor who voiced "Soap" MacTavish in Modern Warfare 1 and 2, there are plans in the works for a Call of Duty feature film. No script appears to be written yet, nor have casting decisions been made, but McKidd said he would love to star if the film is greenlit.

The actor spoke with the NYPost about why he was asked to play Soap in Modern Warfare 2. "They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he said.

When he was asked whether he would like to be in the film, McKidd said, "If the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."

I'm not sure why he's got such a bug in his brain about Gerard Butler, but I guess it's a Scottish thing. McKidd has done quite enough acting to be respected on his own, with recurring roles on HBO's Rome and Grey's Anatomy, as well as a big part in the rom-com, Made of Honor.

I suppose that with MW2's immense success, the discussion of a movie about the franchise would have been inevitable. Even movie execs can't bat an eyelash at $550 million made in five days. A movie that grosses a fifth of that take would be a huge coup for them.

What do you think? Should McKidd reprise his role if there is a film? If he did, he would be the first actor to do so, which seems to be quite a feat in and of itself.

to Mckidd:go burn in hell for ruining the character. but, hey, I'd say that to everyone except Mr. T who would voice the character, don't take it too personally
I think modern warfare wouldn't work as a film, suffering a transformers2 syndrome of not knowing who to please

And so history repeats. I remember that there was going to be a Halo movie too. Now we just have to wait for Modern Warfare 3: Finish the Fight.

Wasn't there also a rumor that Ghost was gonna get his own Modern Warfare game/series or something...

Yeah, this doesn't surprise me...but at the same time it'll either be like the Halo movie(In development hell) or Micheal Bay will get his hands on it.

of course bay will direct it. he's exactly who IW should want based on their franchise direction.
laughablle part is that rumor mil has D9's director for halo movie, which could very easily make it amazing, and that MW:M will have..Micheal BAYSLOPSIONS!!!!1

Oh god. Another possible video game movie only to kill the actual game in the long run. If it ever does become a movie I will watch it seeing how I've been with CoD ever since I was 9 when the first one came out. Then I'll create a review and put it on youtube. Stuff that any "sensible" person would do........................ in Soviet Russia..............

He got his own comic, if that's what you're referring to.

Modern Warfare, as a Clancy-esque Thriller, seems MUCH easier and more potentially successful then a HALO movie. Make it a Sum of All Fear's action movie, James Bond + The A-Team + OH GOD NUKES. The damn script writes itself, the hard part is making the story compelling and thought provoking and not just having strawman Vewy Bad Tewwowists as the villains.

This warrants explanation.

Exactly how was Soap, a character who was mute and had next to zero back story and absolutely no dialogue in the original game get ruined exactly?

How do you ruin a blank template? By taking a piss on it I guess. But that's not exactly what they did. Captain MacTavish was pretty badass. His only crime (Questionable hairstyle aside) is sounding too much like Christopher Eccleston. I thought I was rolling with the eighth doctor for the first couple of missions.

If his only offense is sounding too much like another badass I have to wonder how Soap was, "Ruined".

I knew that voice sounded familiar. Not to mention the obvious use of Gaz' voice actor as Ghost.

I thought he did a good job with it, and he was great in Rome. We'll see I guess.

Hmm...maybe its because he voiced him in the first game. But, of course, that's just a thought ;).

Except that Soap didn't talk in the first one? Just a thought ;)

I guess for the same reason that people would see Gordon Freeman as ruined if he talked: we'd gotten to thinking of him as us. Not that I mind (mohawk aside) how Soap turned out in this.

If you've played Modern Warfare 1, you too would highly doubt that. You could say that Soap is a man of few words in the first game.

Agreed. I thought he played the role perfectly.

You'd tell everyone who could possibly voice Soap to burn in Hell?
That's a bit needlessly aggressive...

That's different!

We all know Gordon Freeman would crack the earth in two with a whisper!

...But valid point otherwise.

I wonder if they can work up a script that makes some god damn sense, no one can tell me that an EMP could create a shockwave that reaches through the vaccuem of space, hits the space station, blows it up of all things, and say it makes sense..
