No Dead Space 2 for PC? - UPDATED

Bad news, PC gamers: It looks like there will be no Dead Space 2 [http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Space-2-Playstation-3/dp/B00309XHD0/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1280155874&sr=1-1] for you!

EA's [http://www.ea.com] third quarter results for the fiscal year 2010 are about what you'd expect: Lots of numbers, talk about things like non-GAAP net revenues, upbeat sound bites from various executives and all in all, as the saying goes, dull as dirt. But there is one bit of information that's of interest to more than just accountants and analysts: Way down near the bottom is the list of EA's "key titles" for the 2011 fiscal year, included among them Dead Space 2; and Dead Space 2, according to that list, is being released for consoles and generically-defined "handhelds," but not the PC.

Optimists might think it's a misprint - perhaps the check mark was accidentally placed under handhelds instead of PC - but EA's public relations department told Blue's News [http://www.bluesnews.com/s/107212/no-pc-dead-space-2] that, "As of right now a PC sku is not in the plan."

Could it be coming later, similar to the PC launch for Mass Effect, which followed six months after it hit on the Xbox 360? We've reached out to EA ourselves for clarification and will update when we hear back. For now, however, it looks like once again, Team PC is going to go without.

UPDATE: Electronic Arts has issued a statement in response to queries about the fate of the game on the PC. "Visceral Studios is dedicated to delivering an outstanding Dead Space sequel for the Xbox 360 and PS3," said EA public relations rep Melissa Ojeda. "A PC SKU is under consideration. Nothing additional at this time."

We'll keep you posted.

PC gamers get enough great stuff. Like they'll miss this "survival shooter". Note: Dead Space was NOT survival horror. There is no horror in "startle" scares. Just surprise and flinching.

Survival because you do have to scrounge for ammo and explore. Shooter, because you see alien, you shoot it. And they made action the primary focus. While insulting me with so called "puzzles".

That said, I had a good time with the first game. But it wasn't a horror game. Unless gore=horror.

Well, didn't it not sell too well on PC? I mean, sucks for the PC crowd, but makes sense to me.

I do hope that PC gamers get it eventually. : D

Can anyone post that "Happily Dying" picture for this guy? I don't have it saved.

OT: Hopefully they'll release it eventually as I enjoyed Dead Space and shooters are far more fun on the PC.

Uh, no.

And laame, guess I'll have to get it for my PS3 instead at half the resolution and framerate.

Dead Space just wasn't all that good on the PC to begin with. It was OK, felt pretty clunky and awkward compared to every other shooter out there. I'm calling it a shooter, cause it sure wasn't a horror game. Just another pretty generic shooter with ugly monsters. I don't think any PC gamers are going to miss Dead Space 2.

Feh, I prefer console controls to PCs. And achievements are a plus.

EA is now one of the best companies in my opinion because they found a way to get rid of the complaints about DRM on the PC version: get rid of the PC version. (/sarcasm)

Who cares? We have Doom 3. And the less *shivers* over-the-shoulder games we have, the better.

Meh, I still haven't actually played through the first one yet (thanks a bunch for reminding me of that though!), so if this is just a case of a delayed release, I don't really have a problem with it.

And if it never comes to the PC, well that's just one less thing I have to buy then, heh.

Spore and Duke Nukem forever don't exactly help the case. Neither do the many cross platform games on that list.

Its not all bad. It will probably come out after EA turns a profit on the console versions. I just wish they would change the description for the game.

"Survival Horror" it is not.

Yeah, its been dying for like what, 10 years now?

Plus, if its dying, someone better tell Valve, so they can take their massivly successful Steam platform off the net, you know, the same platform that hit 25 million users. Plus all their insanely successful PC games like TF2, L4D 1&2, Counter Strike, and Day of Defeat. Because you know, no one plays those games anymore.

As someone who plays shooters almost exclusively on the PC I'm happy about this, no I'm not going to try and say it's bound to be crap or that first one sucked. I'd just rather them not butcher a game by slapping a .exe on the xbox 360 port and calling it a PC game, it only ever leads to disapointment. PCs are not consoles, they don't work properly with things like matchmaking and autoaim (yes AvP, you've wounded me deeply).

If they don't have the time or resource to release a PC version, it's far better that they don't. At least this way nobody is going to get screwed by buying a console game on the PC. I can rest easy knowing that in this instance, my instinct of buying on my prefered platform isn't going to lead me to an inferior version. It's not like there's any shortage of other PC games.

You mean Bioshock? Oh yes, three* games out of several dozen are such a loss ;)

*Every game on there, to my knowledge, was either a PC exclusive, arrived on PC first, or was flat-out better made on PC

This news saddens me. Not only does it give fuel to the "PC gaming is dying" bullshit (as evidenced by this thread), I actually loved Dead Space on PC. Here's hoping they just release it later than planned.

I've long ago realized that they've substituted horror for gore. When was the last time you saw a horror flick that genuinely scared you instead of just disgusting you (if it even did that) with gore?

Ugh. This again. Horror =/= Scary. Just because it doesn't scare you doesn't mean that it isn't a horror game. Like Doom 3, that was not scary AT ALL, but it is still a "horror" game. Going by that, I had no trouble surviving in it, so it isn't a "survival" game.

OT: Oh well... hopefully it will eventually come. I hate playing shooters on consoles.

Horror movies don't exist anymore. They are all torture/porno flicks sadly...
