GameTrailers Kicks God of War Hype Train Into Full Gear

Do you want to see a "titanic," nearly-twenty-minute look at Sony Santa Monica's God of War III [http://www.amazon.com/God-War-III-Playstation-3/dp/B000ZK9QCS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278968473&sr=1-1]? Don't lie to me; of course you do.

[gametrailers=62078]

I'm going to be honest with you guys: Before right now, my feelings for God of War III were pretty much "eh." The first two games were good, sure, and notable for a whopping sense of scale, but they were never really my favorite things in the world. I could respect the vision in them, but it felt like the games actually just came down to doing the same thing over and over to slice through a cavalcade of mostly-identical nemeses. God of War III? Sure, it'd be good, but it seemed to just be another case of Sony fanboys hyping the hell out of one of its exclusives (See also: 4, Metal Gear Solid [http://www.amazon.com/Killzone-2-Playstation-3/dp/B000FQBF1M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1279057826&sr=1-1]).

Now, having seen almost twenty minutes of gameplay thanks to Gametrailers TV's Geoff Keighley's visit to the Sony Santa Monica HQ [http://www.gametrailers.com/episode/gametrailers-tv/85]? I can summarize my reaction in two words:

Holy crap. Count me on board this hype train, choo-choo!

The game looks stellar; the sense of scale with the Titans is absolutely astronomical, and it sounds like they're trying to genuinely improve the game from "Mash Square until bored, then mash Triangle instead - and now have a random puzzle room!" There were a few moments where the animations looked slightly off (especially while characters were falling), but overall that game looks genuinely stunning, and well worth the four or five years of development.

I mean, it might even be enough to stop me playing StarCraft II [http://www.amazon.com/Starcraft-II-Wings-Liberty-Pc/dp/B000ZKA0J6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1278964580&sr=1-1] for an entire week.

GameTrailers kick any big-name game into over-hyped. I remember a time when Modern Warfare 2 had a week long hype train over there, and the day after release there was so much complaining on that site.

Holy mother of God, Still watching, and looking sweet!

Calumon: Why do people always have to fight? They should make time for playing!

Looks pretty cool, but God of War really isn't my genre. I might buy it later.

Not sure what I'm more excited for:

The awesome flow(as it seems now) of battle in GoW III, or the fact that the Transformers game will have Omega Supreme(my childhood hero) in it, exactly the way he was when I saw him as a cartoon back in, well, what was it, 1996?

Bah, I don't have a PS3.
This makes me sad, because there are no games for PC/Xbox360 that I'm interested in at the moment.

Am I going to have to buy a PS3? Because let's face it, I really can't afford that right now :D

This makes me want a PS3 so, SO MUCH! Damn it. That trailer for Transformers: War For Cybertron looks alright but i'm skeptical.

The amount of effort that went into this game is tremendous; there are very few games which can have that much attention to detail while still being enjoyable to play. Simply put, it looks fucking awesome!

I have a feeling that SONY is riding on this game to boost their sales numbers, and honestly, I think they've put their trust in the right place.

I bought my PS3 mainly for this game. I loved the first two God of War games and want to see how the series ends.

I played the demo on my PS3 and felt the game looked amazing and played really smooth. Although I am very used to the Xbox 360 game controller, so playing on the PS3 felt a little weird.

I might have to call in sick for a day or so when this arrives..

More glad than ever I reserved the Ridiculously Expensive Edition as soon as it became available...I'll admit to being a Kratos fanboy, I guess, because this game was the main reason I bought a PS3. Counting down the days...

Two quick comments on the footage, spoilered if you haven't watched it yet...

1.) Fingernail rip...one word: OUCH!

2.) A second person perspective kill! That's hilariously awesome! (Didn't someone make a joke about "the second person shooter")?

Sigh. God of War III is perhaps the only PS3-exclusive title I've ever wanted to play...
but that isn't happening anytime soon.

I tried watching the video but,for me,20 whole minutes of god of war 3 footage would contain too much stuff that, when I buy the game,I won't be suprised because I will have seen how it pans out and what happens because of that feature.
