No More Heroes Designer Wants to Make Different Games With Motion Controls

Goichi Suda (also known as Suda 51) said he is interested in making games to make use of the upcoming Project Natal and PlayStation Motion Controller.

With No More Heroes 2 [http://www.amazon.com/No-More-Heroes-Desperate-Nintendo-Wii/dp/B002BRZ9AG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1279054544&sr=1-1] hitting UK shelves, Grasshopper Manufacture CEO Suda 51 made his way to London to help with the launch and talk about his upcoming plans for the newest gaming technology. Suda 51 said he is interested in making games to make use of the upcoming Project Natal and PlayStation Motion Controller. He has no intention of remaking No More Heroes, but instead plans to make original products specifically geared to the new technology with the specific control scheme integrated into the game to fully utilize the potential of the motion control devices.

Also mentioned were Suda 51's admiration of Heavy Rain [http://www.amazon.com/Heavy-Rain-Playstation-3/dp/B002CZ38KA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1279054514&sr=1-1], saying he would like to make a title in that style someday. Suda 51 said he appreciates "new designs and anything that gives new experiences to the players." He admitted, however, that making the game may be a bit tricky in the current Japanese development climate, but with the differing tastes of the American and European market, such a game is still viable.

Suda 51 is known for making rather unique if not bizarre games, so it will be interesting to see what he whips up for Natal and the PlayStation Motion Controller.

Motion control will never work in its current format

We need a sensor on each side of a person to register all the axis (or axises (what's the plural!?)

Yeah, I'm interested in seeing what comes of this news as well. You'd better believe I'm gonna be following this closely.

I love everything this guy makes.

I'll be buying anything he makes on these consoles.

Well, I think he is certainly the first person other than Peter Molyneux who seems intrested and excited!

I expect something fascinatingly weird to come out of this. Hopefully it'll manage to be a good game while being interesting, like No More Heroes, instead of amazing and unique but an awful game, like Killer7 (the setting and style and eight million layers of things going on that you can spend ten times longer thinking about and analyzing than actually playing in game were great, but the gameplay was so bad that I could never finish it myself and had to watch someone else do it; fortunately NMH pretty much fixed all of that). In the meantime, NMH2 should go on sale at some point so I can afford it and rescue my Wii from neglect.

Suda51 + Heavy Rain? That will be either the weirdest or the most innoventive game imaginable.

I kinda feel like Killer 7 and Heavy Rain have similar frameworks in the sense that you cart your character from scene to scene as a primary gameplay device. The primary difference of course is that in Killer 7, in between cut scenes is fun, and the cut scenes aren't sleep inducing.

I appreciate his eye for innovation, though honestly I still get a huge boner about all of the games with "traditional" control schemes that he's supposedly been working on up to this point. Yami in particular still strikes me as having the most potential for being the greatest game of all time.

Also, I wish someone would post numbers on how well No More Heroes 2 sold, as much of a disappointment as it was.

More power to ya man! You made No More Heroes and Killer 7, thus you are a god among game designers.

Other than No More Heroes? That'd be pretty slick. I want to see him make another game with motion controls like Killer7. That game would've worked wonders with Motion controls.
