Facebook and Zynga Kiss and Make Up

Facebook [http://www.zynga.com/] are all lovey-dovey again thanks to a new five-year deal that will actually expand the use of Facebook Credits, Facebook's universal virtual currency, in Zynga games.

It's been a rough patch lately for Facebook and Zynga, and for awhile it looked like the world's foremost social network and its premiere gaming partner might actually go their separate ways [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100437-Will-Zynga-Leave-Facebook]. But the brinkmanship appears to be over, as the two casual colossi have kissed and made up and promised to be friends for at least the next half-decade.

The specifics of the new deal haven't been revealed but the most interesting aspect would appear to be the agreement to expand the use of Facebook Credits in Zynga games. Facebook's desire to replace Zynga's game-specific virtual currency with its own, and take a 30 percent cut off the top, was a major bone of contention, so it's a good bet that some sort of deal was made to bring Zynga on board. Or maybe Zynga, for all its passive-aggressive posturing, just didn't have the stones to actually take its act on the road.

Whatever the case, it's a good ending for both sides. This kind of fight never ends well for anyone and the fact that Zynga and Facebook are heavily co-dependent no doubt went a long way toward bringing them both the table. A percentage of something is a whole lot better than all of nothing, after all, and let's face it: There's more than enough money being spread around here to keep everyone happy.

Great. Now that Zynga and Facebook have made up, their reign of screwing over people of time, money and privacy can resume unabated.

To quote Yahtzee:

I fucking called it!

(Of course, it didn't really take a rocket scientist to figure out that the giant money train wasn't going to derail anytime soon.)

I guess this tells us what Facebook's stance on privacy and honesty is. Zynga is well known for their scams and completely ignoring any sort of privacy (not that Facebook gives you much), but with this deal, Facebook is clearly condoning this.

If you were looking for a final straw before you leave Facebook, let this be it.

Oh joy... just when I thought this horror would end.

The word you're thinking of Calumon is "inevitable".

How the hell could that 'quote' be pinned to one person? I'm sure many people have said that at one bloody point in their life.
Because on this site, I reckon that would be the first thing that comes to mind with most people. And I might as well say "To quote Yahtzee" rather than people screaming: "u stole taht from yahtzee!!!1111"

Well then, build your own. There's a couple [http://onesocialweb.org/] of frameworks [http://www.elgg.org/] out there in development, not to mention Diaspora [http://www.joindiaspora.com/].

I misread your initial post as "get rid of 99% of casual gamers on the social network" then. Sorry.
