The Week in Review

In this week's edition, porn on consoles, superheroes, and disgruntled developers calling out their games.

Porn Purveyor Targets Consoles

Following a string of disappointing reviews for Alpha Protocol, an unnamed individual, who allegedly works for Obsidian, has lashed out at the game, saying that it should have been cancelled. The anonymous source, calling themselves a "tired dev", laid much of the blame at producer and Obsidian co-owner Chris Parker, saying that his micromanagement spoiled the game. Steven Hirsch's picture frightens me... no comment.

Captain America movie... don't care.

I don't think BioWare understands that humor negates darkness and vice versa. To add more of both is to be rather neutral and improve nothing. Or at least I haven't seen it work before anyways, but I don't think they'll be able to pull it off in Mass Effect 3.

The FF7 writer seems disgruntled... probably ran out of coffee -- or worse! Redbull!

Alleged Obsidian Employee... I'm not sure... I wasn't behind the scenes to see it all go down and just how Chris Parker was running things, but it doesn't sound likely. However, until this person names themself or Chris Parker admits to it, I can't make a fair call on it.

A game has to have ups and downs so you can go into dark periods then once you get out, stronger then ever, and have a light moment, it can be effective

They say it will be darker and more humourous. If they add more darkness to it and then humor, wouldn't it be the equivalent of what Mass Effect 2 was? In terms of proportions of course.

I understand the point. It's just they say they're adding a lot more darkness to it as well and that's throwing me off. It just seems to me it will probably equate to Mass Effect 2 in terms of atmosphere, aside from the pacing of course. So all that addition may end up being a fruitless endeavor.

I don't see how micromanaging could have produced a game that needed another few months in the pipes just to be passably bug-free. But, hey, it's as likely as anything. They should take a page from Blizzard's book...and BioWare...and, y'know, basically everyone else. If you can't make the launch date, don't. Better yet: don't give a launch date till it's ready.
