Rumor: GoldenEye 007 Remake Coming at E3

Activision could be pulling the sheet off a remake of beloved N64 classic GoldenEye 007 in less than two weeks, if rumors are to be believed.

Last year, we first heard whispered rumors about the existence of a title called GoldenEye 2010 [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/95723-Rumor-Goldeneye-2010-Coming-to-the-Wii] in development at Eurocom Entertainment Software. Naturally, many people immediately jumped to the (quite reasonable) assumption that this was a remake of Rare's 1997 classic GoldenEye 007, the game that inarguably defined console FPS titles in the pre-Halo era.

A source revealed to Eurogamer [http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/activision-goldeneye-game-in-november] that the game would be published by Activision this November for the Nintendo Wii (as a Wii alternative to Call of Duty: Black Ops, presumably), and that the publishing giant intended to unveil the title later this month at E3. Development has been shared between US studio n-Space and UK studio Eurocom, who previously worked with James Bond on the N64's The World Is Not Enough.

An anonymous source also sent pictures in to GoNintendo [http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=125721] further corroborating the potential existence of GoldenEye 2010, though the game mentioned in that material would apparently star current Bond Daniel Craig instead of GoldenEye's Pierce Brosnan. If true, then perhaps we're looking at a title more along the lines of the mediocre GoldenEye: Rogue Agent than a remake of the beloved N64 FPS?

As always, consider standard rumor procedures to be in effect: None of this is confirmed, don't go preaching this as the gospel truth because it could just be pure, undiluted bupkes. If true, though, it'd be very interesting - for all I played the hell of GoldenEye back in the day, the game has aged incredibly poorly, and is pretty much unplayable these days. So a modern remake, if it captured the spirit of the original, could be pretty awesome. Of course, it could also suck, and suck hard.

Let's all keep our fingers cross that A.) it exists, B.) it's an actual remake, and C.) that it isn't crap.

And yes, that is a Wiimote shell modeled after the game's infamously crappy Klobb.

Well, I hope it is a current gen, HD remake of the N64 FPS king...but if it's soley going to be for the Wii then I curse their souls! I don't have a Wii and I don't want to buy a Wii just so I can play this game again.

There Funk, you have just named the Bondian paradox. The last time a developer managed to defy this it created an awesome storm the aftershocks of which are still felt to this day.

It seems highly unlikely, even closely following the steps of their predecessors, the any aspiring developers will succed in breaking the Bondian paradox ever again.

If this turns out good. I may get a Wii to play it. Only if I can use the classic controller because I do not like motion control.

My hopes would be for something akin to Rare's recent rerelease of Perfect Dark. That package was just plain awesome.

What will really make this thing suck is if they actually have the audacity to put it on the Wii.

Sorry, but they've been beaten to it. [http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBQQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.moddb.com%2Fmods%2Fgoldeneye-source&ei=7GsJTPbGEIOM0gS75cFb&usg=AFQjCNGNevWoE-kRTNyisJ45Y9X5iXuF6Q]

Note: I'd advise anyone who liked the original Goldeneye 007 and owns a Source Engine game that isn't free Portal to download it.

I don't really see a reason to remake it, except to get quite a bit of money. It's unnecessary in my opinion.

Yes, I am hoping for a Goldeneye remake.
Yes, I hope it doesn't suck.
Yes, I hope it's on a console I own.
Yes, I am sure that if it does come out, the Klobb will still suck in true Goldeneye fashion.

Hmm. It'd be a long shot for this to actually come out, and not suck, but hot diggity it'd be awesome if it did...

If it's true its gonna suck because of three things A) It's on the Wii. B) It's being done (might be if this is true) by Activision and C) Daniel Craig is not as good as Pierce Brosnan....also he's the only James Bond you can do for a Goldeneye remake, considering HE WAS IN GOLDENEYE!

EDIT: Also only Rare can make this game, no one else

I am actually glad that n-space is doing this. they made the call of duty ports to the ds and wii, the marvel ultimate aliance port to the wii, and the nintendo published horror game Geist

well looking at your badges its seems that it will not, for n-space doesnt dip into pc or xbox. but they do specilize in ds and wii fps titles (for example the call of duty series on the ds is their creation) and they do a good job.
