Assassin's Creed Creative Director Leaves Ubisoft

In another bad break for Ubisoft Montreal, Assassin's Creed [http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Dvideogames&field-keywords=%22assassin%27s+creed%22&x=0&y=0] Creative Director Patrice Désilets has left the studio.

Patrice got his start at Ubisoft Montreal back in 1999 as a lead designer on Assassin's Creed [http://www.amazon.com/Hype-Time-Quest-Pc/dp/B000031KJU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1276529840&sr=8-1] in 2007, followed by the sequel in 2009, were even more impressive additions to his CV, which he may now be putting to good use.

The specifics behind his departure haven't been revealed; it's possible that the recent exodus of other talent could have led him to seek out greener pastures, or perhaps he was influenced by sequelize [http://www.ubi.com] Assassin's Creed on an annual basis. The company's only comment thus far has been the rather cryptic, "With his role on project essentially done, Patrice Désilets has decided to take a creative break from the industry and is no longer working on Assassin's Creed Brotherhood."

Regardless of the reason, Désilets' resignation has to be bad news for Ubi's Montreal operation, which in recent weeks has suffered the loss of numerous high-ranking veterans. Jade Raymond, Maxime Beland, Rima Brek and Alexandre Parizeau all left for Ubisoft's strike out on his own [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/100917-Ubisofts-New-Toronto-Studio-Takes-on-Splinter-Cell] in April.

I'm not a big fan of Ubisoft games to be honest (apart from Far Cry 2), level design and pacing in those games always seem off to me.

I missed the article that Ubi are making Ass of ass creed yearly installments, so not only will we get poorly thought out games but we'll get them on an annual basis, super, Bobby would be proud.

mmmmmm Jade....

Ubisoft Montreal are really going to pay for this. I mean development is going to suffer in the long run, not angry mobs.

Nooooo, Patrice!... Actually, it would be great if he joined up with some already-awesome company now. Like... say, BioWare.

Ubisoft!

You know the expression : Karma always bites back, *****?
Yeaah, exactly. Your idiotic DRM certainly incurred the wrath of some kind of divine being. I am glad talent is being sucked away from you, this is YOUR punishment and you know this.

On topic, I sincerly hope these people find a better place and enjoy what they like.
Here, here!

I agree with Bullet.

Aww....Well, the talent of a such a massive studio can't be solely in a handful of people, right?

Some of the magic will remain. That said, I wish him the best in his "break from the industry".

Besides Hocking, I don't really care...

I mean Jade Raymond? Assassins Creed 1 was a turd and 2 was only a mild improvement.

Let's hope this isn't going to cause the series to go downhill.
I think the attempt to sequelize it will be enough to do so, let's face it, you can't bring turkey for dinner every week without making it seem so ordinary thanksgiving and christmas lose a bit of the magic (the food anyway).

I wish him a good industry break and come back inspired as hell. Then probably we will have another fun game that doesn't needs to be sequelized for the sake of being sequelized.

One can't argue with that. He could introduce well thought out action titles to Bioware.
