Doctor Horrible Voicing Spider-Man in Shattered Dimensions
Neil Patrick Harris, Stan Lee, and other actors who've played the web-slinger are going to appear in Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions.
Activision is clearly hoping that Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will be perceived as a love letter to fans of the comics. Aside from the fact that the game features four of the most popular incarnations of Marvel's web-slinger, the publisher has now revealed that each version of Spidey will be voiced by voice actors who played him in various cartoons, including geek hero Neil Patrick Harris.
Neil Patrick Harris &mdash well-known for his roles as Doctor Horrible and Barney Stinson &mdash played Spider-Man in 2003 in the CGI cartoon Spider-Man: The New Animated Series. The other actors voicing the hero are Josh Keaton, Dan Gilvezan, and Christopher Daniel Barnes.
While the other actors appearing alongside Harris probably aren't too well-known to you, they have all played Peter Parker at some point. Gilvezan portrayed the character in the 1980s in Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends, which was notable for creating the character Firestar before she was imported into Marvel's comic universe. Barnes, in turn, starred in the 1990s animated Spider-Man series. Keaton, finally, is the most recent voice of the character in the 2008-2009 series The Spectacular Spider-Man, which is my personal favorite of the various shows.
Activision also revealed another treat for comic fans: Stan Lee himself will be handling the game's narration. I enjoyed Spider-Man: Web of Shadows, but the game also had its fair share of quirks and irritations. Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions is clearly intended to be a better game, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I'm quickly becoming excited about it. The only way this voice cast could get any better is if Bruce Campbell gets a cameo of some kind (though I have no problem living without Tobey Maguire doing more terrible voice work).
